Found this insect this evening on the couch. It was dark outside and lights were on inside so it might be drawn into the light.
As you can see from the fabric on the couch, it is a close macro shot. The insect is about 1cm long.
It does not have any tail or long antennas so that made me rule out lots of possibilities like mayflies or stoneflies.
I live near London, UK.

This appears to be a mayfly that has lost some of its appendages - see http://www.bishopthorpe.net/mt/nature_notes/images/mayfly.jpg for a more intact specimen.
I was thinking about that species but don't they have longer antennas as well?
Yes, but your specimen appears to gave met with some mishap.
