Hi,
I just noticed that Norman Deno's seminal work on seed germination was published in June 1993 making it just over 20 years old. There are many great reference sites for seed germination on the 'net, but Deno's book is a marvel. It is available as a public domain download at
http://naldc.nal.usda.gov/catalog/41278
and the two supplements are at
http://naldc.nal.usda.gov/catalog/41279
and
http://naldc.nal.usda.gov/catalog/41277
They make the germination of rare and difficult seeds so much easier. The one problem with the .pdf files of the download is that they were evidently scanned in and a lot of typos have accrued from the scanning and text recognition process. Hence, it is better to search the files for the genus rather than the species and it is usually the species name that has been garbled.
Thank you Dr Deno!
Celebrating 20 years of Dr Deno
Yes, these are a great reference for gardeners!
Thank You to Dr. Deno!
Me too, thank you Dr Deno! I downloaded these PDFs a while ago and refer back to them every year when I run into trouble with some recalcitrant seed or other. Invaluable!
Thanks for the links. I've only read bits and will be glad to have the full text.
