Seemed to me they bloomed most of late summer without regard to lunar cycle, but I don't remember well enough to comment solidly.
Moonflowers
Mine are blooming again big time right now.
on the 30th the bloom count was up to 71 this morning it was up to 115 the moon is waning Gibbous and the only relation I have found so far is during the full the count was zero stay tuned pics later today
the correspondence may be ground moisture/temperature correlation
The moon is waning and 10%illum. ZERO blooms I plan to track this thru the next cycle Stay tuned
Grits? How many days thru a bloom cycle does it take from start to finish? Do you have that tracked?
Now just off the top I say about 10 or 12 from start to peak and slightly more from zero back to zero They peaked at 1/2 moon then declined to full moon and this point they were at zero ,then as the moon waned they increased until they reached another peak the cycle during the waning period was much quicker than the cycle of the waxing period Will go count right now later
the count is at 110 so still rising
The moon is just starting a wane cycle and today there were 2 blooms but there were none during the full moon they should increase as the moon wanes ..I had to cut 2 plants down as they were taking over the whole yard ,at this time my plans are to scale back on the moonflowers Unless I can managed to grow a lot of the 2x purple ones
Oh My Goodness, that is gorgeous Grits, and you have me beat hands down!!!
i remember those days, they are gorgeous Grits, but they are loving your WHOLE yard...
I thought moonflowers were a night blooming vine that had a saucer sized white bloom (can't remember a fragrance (it must have been faint) It bloomed indifferently to the lunar cycle, as I recall, but the blossoms were beautiful and pristine and showy and lasted only that night... bummer.
I need to plant some. I miss seeing them in the moonlight. Anyone ever planted a nightblooming white garden?
True moonflower vines have a delightful fragrance. datura are hardier but unsented.
Grew datura for years and it definitely has a scent. Nevertheless, I find the discussion on blooms and the moon phases fascinating.
Regarding moonflowers, daturas, and whatever,

However, you might want to ignore the 'comments' on the links provided because even there, people are still confusing terminology. Sigh. I rarely confuse terminology - - - I just admit to total ignorance.

well my tropical romantic moonflowers had a scent that came in the front door and half way to the all. My white datura may have had a scent but my nose wasn't good enough. And I never noticed it in the house.. Now I don't grow either, no time. But if I were going to, I would grow the annual variety with the perfume..
I believe I had the ipomea noctiflora, and the best way to get them to germinate is to put them near the
soil surface, under another plant, in the texas sun, and water daily. Cool temps they will not germinate at all.

I had cut some of my Moon Flowers[Datura] down as they were just crowding the entire front yard>.we are nearing the full moon and I can only see one bloom ,that is looking from the front steps as it is dark and wet out there LOL
Wet? What the heck is that??? lol
Wonder if the growth you cut back would have provided new bloom stock.
Tonight or tomorrow is the Harvest Moon. Wonder if that will have any effect.
Right now I have a yellow one blooming and the purple is almost ready to open will post some pics later as they are on the laptop
Absolutely gorgeous Gritts, I love Daturas.
Jo It has just been only in the last few years that I have expanded into the other colors and the 2x purple is maybe one of the prettiest flowers ever..
That double purple is stunning!
