These little bugs were all over my Ceonanthus flowers. They are tiny, black and seemed to be sucking the flower stalks.
CLOSED: This bug is only 1/8" long.
Tumbling flower beetles in the family Mordellidae - they do not appear to cause any real harm to the flowers, and their larvae are believed to prey on insects they find while tunneling in rotten wood or herbaceous plant stems.

You're welcome - I first encountered these in the 1950s on our farm near Minot while working on my 4-H insect collection.
I can see now why your so good at ID. You have loved bugs your whole life. I'm just noticing more and more insects now that I live further away from the city with all the chemicals that were around my old garden.
