My daughter noticed these things in our yard and home about 7 days ago. Since, there's been a literal infestation. They are every where I turn outside...under things, on plants, buildings, the ground, etc. They are even inside my house...though thankfully, not as many as outside!
I garden and work in my yard often. Have lived here for 20+ yrs and don't ever recall seeing them before. 100% certain they have never been here in these kind of numbers.
The largest one I have found is about 1/4" long. They seem to always be on the move and stink if touched or smashed.
Anyone know what these things are?

Thanks. I'm in southern Idaho.
I suggest that you contact your nearest office of Idaho's Cooperative Extension Service (http://www.extension.uidaho.edu/find.asp#RE) for assistance in specific identification and any recommended controls - I suspect that these insects simply are nuisance pests that will do little if any real harm, but it's always best to double-check...
