We noticed a HUGE web on our front porch. It is built perpendicular to the ground. When I awoke this morning I wanted to get a better look but the web was gone. Tonight the web and the spider are back. I am sure in the morning it will be gone again. I can't get a good look at the spider. She looks almost albino.... Maybe a very light brown. I tried to shine a flashlight and it seemed like she didn't really like the light so I turned it off very quickly. What kind of spider could she be?
What spider behaves this way?
This appears typical behavior for the tropical orb weaver - "The web is constructed after dark and the orb is taken down before dawn." - http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/misc/spiders/tropical_orb_weaver.htm
[Note: Individual specimens of this spider can vary considerably in appearance.]
