Roses, two different ways

Anderson, TX(Zone 8a)

I tried rooting roses two different ways in the greenhouse. Here are the results so far...I think I like my Mamaw's tried-and-true milk jug method the best.

Can you link to the procedures you used, Jessaree? If not, can you post the steps you used?

Oh my goodness....will you please explain the process. I would love to try this.

Please do! I've had no luck propagating roses. Are the old fashioned or modern?

Ok, for the ones in the milk jugs, they are in my (Texas) greenhouse with the vent & door open. I filled the jugs up with water (we have well water), stripped the leaves & thorns off & just left them alone. (I think it took a couple of weeks)

For the ones in the 6 packs, I cut at a 45 degree angle just below a leaf. Stripped the leaves & thorns, dipped them in powdered rooting hormone, put them in the greenhouse & kept them watered. No special dirt or water, I think it was topsoil that was on sale at Wal-Mart & good old well water.

As you can see, not all of them rooted.

Pure luck on both of them! Thanks for the encouragement! :D

What kind are they?

I knew someone was gonna ask me that! Ever get to the end of you brilliant idea & just ready to get it over with? I got tired of cutting & dipping, so I just took everything that was left & put it in the jug! :D

What season of the year did you propagate them in? Because I can propagate with just a cutting stuck in dirt, in November/December maybe January.

My Spring cuttings all die, whether water or dirt...

I think these were taken either April or May of this year.

You must have a magic touch. I got spring cuttings at RU too, and they all died in the last month. They were watered but just withered.
