today I noticed a number of these by my front door. Is this a web worm? I have also posted a pic of debris--I don't know if they're eggs or frass. But my front door is a complete mess with this debris. thanks for your help
CLOSED: what kind of worm
I hope their not gypsy moth catepillars.
to my untrained eye, I don't think it is gypsy month. Mine seem black with a white stripe and some fuzzy stuff throughout the entire body. thanks for your input
These appear to be walnut caterpillars, Datana integerrima - http://zipcodezoo.com/Photos/Datana_integerrima_28.jpg
Flapdoodle, it seems to me that you are right and this is the walnut caterpillar. I don't have walnuts but do have pecans and plenty of oaks. I have been looking for foliage damage or cluster of worms along tree trunks and have found nothing, so far.
As far as the black debris I found on our walkway, I think it is totally unrelated to this worm, and more like a case of asphalt shingle shedding.
Thanks all for your help.
