We just found these small, beetle-like insects on a salvia, along with some eggs that we can't identify. We just want to know if this is a beneficial insect or not. We also don't know if the eggs are connected to the insect or not.
CLOSED: Beneficial insect?
These are young nymphs of a stink bug (family Pentatomidae); this family includes both pest species and beneficial predators. It is possible that the nymphs had hatched from those eggs earlier.
Thank you so much! I really didn't know where to start since the nymphs can look so different from the adult insects. It's good to know what we're dealing with. I appreciate your help.
