Ric Rac's cactus first blooms: The very first one opened May 25th Just as sunsets that evening, and remained opened until 9-10AM the following morning.
Selenicereus anthonyanus' first flowers
Beautiful Lily!!! The Ric Rac is still one of my favorite Eppies. I love your photos by the lake. Mine are a little behind yours, probably another week till they start to open. I re-potted my old one last year and looks like only about a dozen buds if they all hold on.
That is gorgeous! I haven't ever seen mine bloom, but the plant is so interesting anyway, I just can't wait to see a flower on it.
ibartoo, thanks. I've had this basket for years; it's the 1st time ever it produces flowers. I believe the age of the plant. As well as the environmental condition enhances it flowers production. On the environmental factor; a prolonged spring cool breeze must have influenced the flowers production I do believe. Currently I've two more buds that are nearly ready to unfurl. Maybe within the next 48-72 hours. Also, more new, tiny buds are being formed. I'm so delighted with the beauty and joy this plant brings.
Beautiful flower!
Those are great flowers! I bought a Ric Rac start a couple of weeks ago, just for the shape of the leaf, not realizing that waiting a few years will yield flowers so beautiful. By the way, I stuck my little start in the window where it is silhouetted and people who come to the house stop in their tracks when they walk by. It's really fun to watch the reaction.
Hi Kim A few more of the RicRac buds have dropped off, there are still plenty on the plant. It set buds in the Greenhouse and since I moved it outside it has dropped some. Worth losing a few buds to see it blooming in the trees.
I still await a ric rac bloom. I've never seen one before. bob
They are strange plants Bob. My old favorite was from a Garden Center in Pasadena, (I am always amazed that I have been able to bring plants on the plane in carry on but I can't bring my bottle of water. LOL) That one has bloomed for me from the first year (it was in a 6' or 8" pot when I got it). I have two others (one from an Estate sale and one from a garden Center both in Nashville) these two are almost as big as that first one and have NEVER set a bud with the exact same care.
I have shared cuttings and started plants with other gardeners and some have bloomed for new owners and some haven't. I wish I had kept better notes on which plants the cuttings came from. When I take cuttings this year I do plan to label the plants and cuttings.
Betty, you've taken some fabulous pics.! I agreed, this epi. is one strangely wonderful plant. I'm finding more new flower buds being formed on this basket I've. Will return with new development.
