I found this on my porch. What is it? It looks sort of like a male black widow, but I'm no expert. My friend claimed it was poisonous.
Edit: I live in Massachusetts.

What is this orange smiley face spider?
This spider is harmless; it appears to be an immature orchard spider, Leucauge venusta - see http://bugsinthenews.info/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/081107-Christine-Woodlands-TX-Orchard-orbweaver-Leucauge-venusta-Ventral-body-center-of-web-closeup.jpg for a mature specimen. Like the vast majority of spiders, it does have venom glands, but its bite is of no consequence to humans. See also the 'sticky' on spider bites at the top of this forum.
Oh, he's cute!
I had a few of those in my yard last summer. The mature ones are really pretty. They have bright green legs when they are mature.
