STARTING OUR SPRING VEGGIE GARDENS PART 6
Those things are evil!!
Drthor I thought you posted you never had problems with bugs?
I noticed for the first time today that SVBs have returned. I thought I had been watching closely but one plant had 5 larva in it's stem so I squished and tossed. I removed some from a couple other plants but they weren't near as bad, I'm hoping they will be ok. The plants are so big it's hard to keep them covered.
I also found squash bugs (at various stages), a leaf footed bug, a small tomato worm, a few leaf miner tracks, tons of pill bugs all sizes, and a couple unknown bugs, some grass hoppers. All bugs have been squished. It surprising how quickly they appear, as soon as the temps warmed up.
huumm bugs love my garden ... they think it is the "candy store" ...
Good bugs take care of the bad ones ...
In the past years I was able to distract the leaffooted bugs with Sunflowers and Cardoon, and I didn't have any problem in my tomatoes.
I hope it will be the same this year.
You must have been confused by the fact that I said that I don't use any pesticides to have healthy plants ... could it be?
Maybe it was regarding your tomato plants. The only thing I've found that bother them are horned worms ( easy to squish) and spider mites.
I am waiting for the Tomato Horn-worm to arrive ... actually Big Mamma is waiting ...
I've not seen one Hornworm in my tomato jungle. But LOTS of cut worms and tiny green worms (before Bt).
Hardly any worms, now. Just vines spilling out everywhere!

congratulations!
Is this your first tomato from the plants you started from seeds at the beginning of January?
Ok, guys. We're over the suggested limit for responses on this thread. Need to start a new one, but trying to decide on new heading, since we're now in the SUMMER SEASON.
How about we segue from here into "OUR SUMMER VEGGIE GARDENS, PART 1?
LMK!
