Sister Lynn (Miss Creative), speaking of containers I was able to finally find some clear bowls at our little 4 isle dollar store ::)) How many holes did you put in the top? Just in the top or a few on down the sides? Episcia C. clone has completely outgrown her terrarium and she needs a new home (grin)
Connie
What's blooming and growing... May-June 2013
Miss Creative???.....you have got to be kidding LOL.
I put one good sized hole in the top for Episcias.and you can put drain holes in the bottom if you want too. It's not really necessary. You could probably do smaller holes in top if that appeals to you more.
I have some with no holes at all,but I keep them on the dry side.
Sister Lynn
Thank ya!! I couldn't remember if you put a few on the upper sides close to the top or just in the top. I don't want any in the bottom bowl. She is so dog gone happy in the one she's in but she needs a bigger home lol.
Is bad weather in your area? We will be getting hit AGAIN late and into the wee hours tonight....UGH!!
Sister Connie
We are just having tons of rain, but nothing destructive, thank God.
The hole in the picture isn't too neat, but you get the idea.It would be okay to put holes in the side if you want a little less humidity.I keep mine on the moist, but not wet side.I very seldom have to add any water.I love the little bowls from Dollar Tree too.
Holly... Love all your plants... the streps, AVs, and primulina! Very nice!
Lynn... Love your episcias under domes! I have E. unpredictable Valley under dome for six years and have never seen one bloom! Also like your Sinningias!
JB... Yay! It bloomed! And it is gorgeous! Don't you just love Spin Art? It is one of my favorites! I love fantasy streps!
Well, the storms were delayed but they are here now!! LOL!! Love those blooms Sis and your Spin Art bloomed pretty too JB ::))
Connie
How pretty JB!
Karen,All my Episcias bloom regularly. They do like pretty good light though.
Sis,stay safe!
After yet another fruitless search for a micro-mini sinningia (locally), my poor lightbulb will just have to wait a bit longer . . .
I was thinking maybe I was the only one not having any luck with the sinningia. I have only ONE, and it is not happy. It was the only one in the group I purchased that was damaged in shipping too. Goaning I love your lightbulb.
Did I post this picture of my little Rob's Sticky Wicket? If I did I apologize. I put it up someplace, may have been on FB. I am so pleased it is blooming already. This is another in the group that came with the sinningia. Oh, there is no place for me to send it. I will see if I can come back and do it.
I love Rob's Sticky Wicket . . . when I grew it, it grew nice and round all on it's own . . .
It is so dainty and you are right, it is forming a beautiful circle type plant. We will see. I am just thrilled these things are growing. This is a first for me and I think I have finally found the problem. I was overwatering all these years. Hmmmmm. Dumb me.
It's so cute.
Nichole,I would love to see that light bulb when it's finished!
Lynn
Is that green flower an African violet? I don't know anything about related plants so I'm not sure how to tell the difference.
If you are referring to the green and pink flower in the first post of this thread....
It is an African Violet relative, a Kohleria...
The name of that variety is 'Beltane'.
Karen
Lynn . . . I ended up ordering some seeds from ebay . . . so will have to wait a few days for them to get here, then will get them started as quick as I can. The auction was for 20 seeds . . . I don't know how they counted them . . .must've been under a microscope! ^_^
A very powerful one LOL.
What causes AV to get a "stem/leg"? All of my AV are just from big box stores. All bloom like crazy but some insist on growing a long, brown stem.
Should I just cut it off & put the AV back in the soil? Will a new AV grow from the old root?
I know it is July, but I did not see a thread for that so I am going with this one, hoping you guys are still around. My babies are just going crazy. Here are the latest as of this morning.
1. Ma's Ching Dynasty - I can not believe that and Rob's Sticky Wicket both bloomed.
2. My new little Strepocarpus Spin Art and Wow both have two blooms now.
I feel like a new Mother. LOL Do you deadhead your AVs and Streps?
I've got the seeds now . . . I'm going to wait until next weekend though, before starting them. Hubby may find out this week if he gets a job he applied for at his company - in NC. No sense in starting seeds until I know for sure!
Jean - you mean a brown stem . . . kinda resembling a palm tree, maybe?
Nice pictures.Just dropped in to say hi.
Lynn
I think we should just finish out July on this thread.
I have 2 blooms going right now . . . I just took them in preparation to taking all my plants over to Jim tomorrow. I'm going to miss them!
These two are the first real blooms from 2 of the plants I got at the national convention in May.
The purple one is Imp's Freon Fallout - the pink one is Sea Haze Trail
Nice pictures Syru! So is Jim going to babysit your plants while you move?
Lynn
Yes, he's going to keep all my leaf babies, episcia's, streps . . . maybe some violets. Then he will send me my species, leaves from the streps, and the trailers I want to keep - once I am all relocated.
My outside flowers have totally given up. Some survived those 7 days of high temperatures but the heat of the sun took the life of most of them. I apologize for not posting flowers, but since this is a Christmas Tree Farm I should say, this weather is loved by the Concolor Fir. Here is a baby that just seems to have grown overnight. Lovely trees for the garden as well as Christmas.
Great pictures Holly.
What a pretty tree.
Lynn
Beautiful strep and AVs Holly!
I have a leaf down for Roullette Cherry, which is the red version of the one you have blooming.
Karen
Here are a few of my proud babies...
1. NOID
2. Optimara Alaska
3. Irish Sweep- always blooming
4. Optimara Little Amethyst
5. Irish Flirt
I feel like a new mom-this is the first time many of these have bloomed for me. I think it is the new lights I installed and the good wicking. Who knows...I am just happy to seem them thrive. Will soon be running out of space. I have an entire 10 gal aquarium full of seedlings to be divided and planted up.....
Sounds like a potting party in in the works!
Judy
Oops- made a mistake in above post- it is the Irish Flirt that is always blooming for me. This is the first blooms for Irish Sweep.
This is my "nursery" lots of work to do!
Other pics are the container wicking system I use. You can cut holes in the lid and either put the pot thru the lid or let it sit on top. I prefer thru the lid especially on the four-plex-more stable when moving it around
Judy
Great pictures Judy.Congrats on your success! ^_^
Lynn
Am I missing something? Is there not an August thread somewhere?
I guess everyone is outdoors gardening. It has been a very quiet summer on the forum. I am hoping to see everyone return in the fall.
Earle
My AV's are doing great but I barely look at them. Too busy outside.
Sorry... no.... I never started a new thread. I have been pretty busy this summer, and most of my plants have been pouting in the mid-summer heat.
If no one else does so before then, I will start a new thread this weekend.
Karen
They are beautiful Kathy!
Just gorgeous!
Lynn
OMG!! I'm drooling over lunar eclipe, the others are pretty too.
