We bought a Juniperus chinensis Robusta Green today. This is the first time I've bought a tree that had burlap-wrapped roots. The instructions from the nursery say to leave the wire and burlap on, just to open the burlap at the top. This has me nervous, as I like to check roots to see if they are root-bound, curling around the tree, etc. Should I follow the nursery advice or do something different? Thanks for any help you can give
Burlap and wire on roots, handling question
I leave burlap - as for the wire I take it off and it us usually quite a job and you need to be careful that the root ball stays in one piece.
Leave them both on. I usually cut away some wire from the top and bury the burlap an inch or so below the soil line.
