Arlington Spring 2013 RU after - bash thread
Thank you!!
Indeed it does, thanks for doing that! Anyone wanting to keep an eye on this thread...just click "watch thread" above the blue line.
I want to see pics of everyones new plants, after they start growing. I find that sort of inspirational.
I love my red dragon plant, can't wait for flowers! I still need to repot it though.
I was trying to count how many plants came from the generous people at the RU's over the past few years and I got up to 40 different species, including house plants.

I agree Cheryl; more than half my plants are from generous DGers, even a few trees! Wish I had a better memory of who gave me what. I have been to plant swaps in Jacksonville, College Station, Waxahatchie, Burleson, Fort Worth and Arlington. So many faces from all over Texas and beyond.... and numerous loved plants in my garden!
Seeing everyone's plants thriving always motivates me to keep potting up what I find in the yard. :)
I can't do that during the summer. Its so hard to keep small pots alive. Thats why I only go to the spring RU. Still I always feel guilty when I pull out excess plants and toss them.

I have also received many plants through DG swaps, many of them I value very much and remind me of the good generous people that I have met through this site.
I think Gardeners are wonderful caring people!!!
We were talking about this at the RU! I love looking at a plant and remembering who I received it from. Brings me good memories.
Me too! And a first time for me... two people got back (from me) things that they gave me and then lost themselves for various reasons. Such fun.
I need help with some of the irises too. I got a bag of unmarked ones that just said Pattie on the bag. There was another with a beautiful pinky-type blossom (was that the peach one?) that was also untagged. Then there's one marked magenta Louisiana. I'm not sure who any of those are from, and I'd like to put the name of the person on my tags.
The ones in the bag that said Pattie are the heirloom purple iris from me, I hope they do well for you.
the magenta LA iris are from me Pattie. You said you wanted an iris from anyone you did not have one from. That's why you got those from me.
@ Sybram from previous thread....the broomweed wasn't near the horse pens. As we walked to the woods past the pens, turned left and went a bit further, they were in a mini clearing. You thought Jo was crazy when she had Frank take her picture in them.
I would love to remember who gave me what better, but for one I am not present when plants are exchanged! I do check back when I can to see who was on the list for what to try and figure out. The old memory is getting bad lately, especially on plant names....drives me crazy.

Thanks, Josephine and Marty. :) Marty, do you know if that one is one that will do well growing in water?
That looks like a hyacinth bean vine, Waco, not purple basil. You were supposed to get purple basil from me. that is not purple basil. Im wondering if a tag got stuck back in the wrong place.
Pattie, I dont know if it will grow in water. I suspect that it will, but mine are growing in soil.
Shelia as we age our memory doesn't get bad it gets full!
Sheila, did you realize the lima beans were from me? I think I forgot to label them.
Yes, I did Marty and they are about a foot tall and full of leaves now!! Thanks for those!
Well, maybe I will try a little fan of it in the water and plant out the rest in the ground. I was just thinking that since the black gamecock does so well in water, maybe the magenta would too. That would be a pretty combo, don't you think? Anyway, I'm very glad to have it either way.
Pattie, let me know if it does well in water. As you know I got that little pond at the RU and I'll be working toward putting some plants in it. If that iris will do well, then I can put some in my pond.
I have some beautiful little yellow blooms on my sedum, and the columbine is indeed red, and everything seems to be "with the living" still. Hope to get a bit of time in the garden in the morning before I go to work. Thank you for all of my beautiful plants!
I am hoping my columbine will be red too!
Will do, Marty.
LOL ok, Looking up how to take care of that...I love vines so no problem.
Angel
That is sooo pretty.
Hahaha, I'm with you, Sheila. I can remember just about anything if you want to stand around and wait about 15 minutes.
OK, I guess you're talking about down at what we call the campfire. We don't mow that regularly, just when we are going to be down there. I was there a few days ago, and the tall dead stems are there still. I guess this year's crop will be coming up soon if they haven't already. I'm on it.
Not to worry, Steadycam. I'm sure in the fall I'll have tons more cannas to give.
Sheila, do you dig all your cannas in the fall, or just dig some to try to thin them out?
be careful of the false foxglove, they were pretty invasive in my yard.
The False Foxglove is from me, and yes they do spread from the roots. I allow them since they are so pretty and I have the space. They came from a DGer at the Jacksonville RU one year. They grow and bloom here for me in mostly shade with some full sun in afternoon. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1455/ They aren't hard to pull up if you decide you don't want them.
Ive been busy. Ive planted the verbena, the Rudbeckia, one of the hellebores, the penstemon, the pokeweed, the Augusta Duelberg, the Imperial taro, and I've up-potted all the plants in tiny containers so I will be able to water them and have it last so I can go away for the week end without worrying about a tiny pot that needs watering daily. Caring for plants is not difficult...it's deciding where to plant for the right sun, moisture, color combination and height. Ive made a container planting of the variegated vinca minor, a left over broccoli seeding, some euphorbia diamond dust rooted cuttings and a white 4 o'clock. I think it will look nice in its red clay pot.
. My yard looks like I have no room for anything but 7 years ago I had no plants and no $ so I landscaped with pretty weeds. As I have been able to get some plants, (thanks to DG generous people and Lowe's dead rack) I gradually replaced some of the weeds with selected plants. Of course some of the weeds are native plants and are allowed to stay.
If I dead head my lyre-leaf sage, will it re-bloom? The leaves are gorgeous with the purple veining.
Lyre-leaf sage puts on the best show early in the spring, but it does get some flowers later on if you dead head.
Thanks, Sheila!
Thanks, Dennis. Sheila, I would like some of those false fox glove next time. As my trees have matured, Im ending up with more shade than sun so Im having to re-think some of my earlier choices. They are really pretty.
Sheila, I think you can pretty much count on that columbine being the red/yellow one. I dug them all up from one spot, and everything there so far has been red. The yellow ones do seed, but I have never gotten a clump like that from them before
.
Great to know! I will plant where I don't have any yellows so I know what it is. I have two or three other varieties that I have saved seeds from and will one day try to expand to share.
Sheila, please read my May 6th post to you. (;")
