Palo verde newly planted

We just planted two palo verde and a week later they have some yellowing leaves. I am concerned with finding the balance between watering enough to get them established and not overwatering. The soil has clay in it, so I'm assuming that it will hold the moisture down a foot or two, but it sure looks dry on top.
Are the yellowing leaves common after transplanting?
