I agree...she's a beauty.

Mine are putting out lots of buds, but so far none have opened. I guess once it gets warmer they will be bursting open and I will have blooms everywhere. My 4 new ones arrived, I don't think I will put them in the ground yet. It might be a pot for the summer and then planting in the fall.

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

Everyone's blooms are lovely. The blooming season has taken off here in GA. I finally took the time to load the pictures on the computer this evening.

I have to say I have been the most thrilled with m. Mayleen this spring, she has been blooming well for several weeks, and now Crystal Fountain and the other clematis are starting to bloom. It's funny that Crystal Fountain has 2 different kinds of blooms. M. Mayleen has a great scent, and has also been perfuming the back deck, with all the lovely blooms.

Here are Omoshiro and Liberation. I can't believe the size of the blooms on Liberation. They're both planted at the end of a bed that has lilies, irises, daylilies, and spring blooming bulbs. The Dutch iris visible is Rosario.

Mrs. Cholmondeley is also putting on a show, and her blooms are huge as well.

Patricia Anne Fretwell has lots of blooms, and blends nicely with the stone columns.

Daniel Deronda is starting to open blooms and should be in full swing by the end of this week.

Niobe quitely snuck in this bloom, tucked in between the variegated hydrangea.

All I can say is Ramona, Ramona, Ramona, she has arisen from the dead, nipped to maybe 2 inches tall and has come back like gangbusters.

Kardynal Wyszynski is also blooming, I don't remember if it bloomed last year.

The Arabellas are full of buds. I had to tie them up to their trellises this week in 4 areas of the garden.

Gorgeous Annette.

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks Carolyn. We're having a really nice spring this year, not too hot, with rain every few days, and the plants are loving it.

I forgot to say last night, welcome to DG and the clematis forum Sheri. You've got some gorgeous clematis. Like you, my gardening was trial and error, but by following the advise of these wonderful people, I'm now growing some beautiful plants.

Gorgeous clem's, as usual, Annette. I just love the way you have m. Mayleen displayed - picture perfect.

Thomaston, CT

The colors are just beautiful....I'd love to have all those clems blooming together!

St. Simon's Island, GA(Zone 9a)

I ordered a Daniel and it arrived yesterday! I was excited to see CEM's picture of it.

Thank you all for the compliments. I'm really enjoying this time of the year.

We have had so much rain in the past week, with the coolest spring that I can remember. I finally got the last of the clematis from Brushwood planted last Friday, and they have been well watered with the many inches of rain that we've had. The garden has burst forth with blooms, and thanks to our cooler weather, the blooms are lasting much longer than in years past. Thanks to this crazy weather, I still have tulips and muscari blooming, that should have been done since last month or before. The clematis are doing really welll, along with the irises and peonies. I've taken close to 2000 pictures over the last 1-2 weeks, and spent several hours sizing them this evening so that I could finally share them.

The first picture is Arabella with Itoh peony Misaka and Wladilawa, the second picture is the 2nd Arabella with Iris Gnu Blue, and the last 3 pictures are different views of Crystal Fountain, which is blooming the best every, since it wasn't harshly trimmed for this spring.

The next 2 pictures are of Jonh Warren. # 3 is Liberation which I love and adore the size of the blooms, they stand out even from very far away. # 4 is Daniel Deronda, and # 5 Patricia Ann Fretwell.

The potted Barbara Jackman, which was planted in this pot on December 15, and surived our winter just fine. # 2 is my other Barbara Jackman, planted in the garden, I had lost the tag on this one when I planted it years ago. I moved it to this new location last year. I found the tag in the other location as I was doing a garden clean up in the last few weeks. Yea!!!!

# 3 is Niobe, # 4 is Fleuri, which is planted in a pot with my new standard rose Rock and Roll. # 5 is Miguel Viso, which has now grown rather large, with gorgeous blooms. I'll post a better picture of it tomorrow.

Annette - they are such gorgeous photos. If I ever get down that way, I want a tour! I have a friend in Winnona. How far is that from you?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

So gorgeous, Annette. That Barbara Jackman is so beautiful!

We clematis lovers should hire a bus and go visit your gardens! Wonderful!

(So glad you found that tag!)

Arlene, I have been on a hunt for the manure. All I can find is the Holly Tone all natural fertilizer. What brand do you get?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I love the Espoma but it's expensive and I probably wouldn't have bought it but I sent Jack out and he came back with four bags of it. Then it was rough to return to the heavy manure sold at Lowe's or Home Depot. Call Agway and ask if they have it.

Williamstown, NJ(Zone 6b)

The manure I am finding has Humas in it, is that what you get? I got a 40 lb bag of Espoma for under 18.00. I did all the flower beds last night with it.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I don't know what Humas is and my empty bags went in the trash long ago but I'll Google it and find out more for you.

No fact sheet that I could find for the product. IF we don't get that heavy rain I'll look for it locally (Agway) and let you know but I would trust the Espoma brand. If I see 40 pounds for $18.00 I'll buy it!

Is this what the bag you bought looked like?

Gorgeous clems! Georgia has been getting all the rain we need....should pick up a little in the next few days....I have some clems that are budded, hope they bloom after the showers we so desperately need.....

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

Well, I think the secret is patience. This must be a magical season for northeast blooms. All of the clematis plants are LOADED with buds, even the smaller plants that laughed when I asked them to perform in the past. For reasons unknown everything in the gardens is doing well. Tulips are just about finished; peonies are also loaded with buds, and all the lilies have a leg up with the alliums.

It has been exceedingly dry with warm days and cooler nights and just now is beginning to "precipitate." A slow rain that is so far sure to soak in. I have the sneaky feeling that it one day we will wake up and it will be too hot to garden.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

So good to hear the news, Marcia.

It's been dry here as well and today's promised rain was merely light showers but more is expected this afternoon.

Speaking of "expected" - my new grandson is expected to arrive in September/early October!

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

Thank you all for the compliments. I'm really happy with the garden this year.

Arlene congratulations on the upcoming birth of your grandson. Babies are such a joy!

My favorite manure is Black Kow that I buy at Lowes. I've bought manure from Walmart before, however it did have humus and other additives, and I didn't like it. I use the Black Kow on everything.

Thanks!

I think it may have been Black Cow that we used many years ago and then it was discontinued from the small place where we bought it.

My friend, who grew the gorgeous Mayleen, said she only used chicken manure on it (not fresh) so I bought some today and will try it out on Niobe. I am nuts about Lowe's and their employees are helpful, intelligent and eager to help.

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

So true about Lowes.

Here's the better picture of Miguel Viso.

# 2 is Multiblue, not Jackmanii like I believed all this time. I also found it's tag and I have to change the label. I also layered this plant last year. I may separate it in the fall.

#3 and 4 are Durandii.

#5 Huvi, popping up among the hostas. I saw the hummingbird several times this week, so I've put the feeders out again.

Miguel is so elegant. I love the soft color

Aha, Multi Blue is good! I didn't layer any yet but thanks for the reminder. I'm working near Dr. Ruppel and can see one sprout so that may be self-layered. I can layer the other one. The rest of the plant is over 3' tall so I'm happy.

Durandi is certainly a nice rich color.

Huvi is absolutely perfect with the hosta. That's a great color combination. Is it Frances Williams hosta? I love it but it can't take the sun, not even morning sun here.

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks Arlene. I'm really enjoying the blooms this year. I'm glad your Dr. Ruppel is doing well.

I was at our local grocery this week and what did I find........a Dr. Ruppel, which a first for this store. They usually carry hanging baskets of annuals each year, but never something like this, I was thrilled. Now, where shall I plant it? So many plants, so few spots in the garden left.

What lovely news about a new grandchild, Pirl! I'd love to see one more with the 3 I have, but I don't think it's going to happen. Very nice photos of some very pretty clems!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Annette - You scored big time! How about putting it in a pot? Then you would be free to move it when a vacancy shows up somewhere.

Thanks, Marilyn. When the baby is born my grandchildren will be 22 (Megan), 7 (Charlie) and then the baby. Talk about spacing out the grandparent years!

Williamstown, NJ(Zone 6b)

Mine are finally starting to open. by this weekend I should have some photos also. No that is not the bag I got. But it sure smelled like manure as I was putting it down. No one seems to know what I am talking about when I ask for it. I will check Lowes again when I get back to there.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I did go to our Agway but didn't see any Espoma manure.

Williamstown, NJ(Zone 6b)

Holy cow, that is spread out. But it is nice having grand children. I so far have none by my sons, only by my husbands daughters when I married him. Not quite the same though.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

My husband had three adult daughters and they each had two girls when we married, from the age of 10 down to 8 months. None were allowed to call me grandma.

I do enjoy my grandkids though Megan is now living in NYC as she has wanted to do since she was 14 years old. City kids dream of living in the country!

Edited to add that my husband was a widower when we got married so it's not that they'd have ever had two grandma's on the same side at the same time.

Thank goodness the Black Kow doesn't have an odor, I store it in the garage, the DH be upset with the smell of manure in his precious garage, LOL.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I do love what manure can do but wouldn't want it in our garage either and I'm not very fussy about the garage.

(karen) Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Wow Pirl that is a lot of spacing - grandkids are surely the best part of parenting. All six of ours are cramped together with the oldest two being 8 this year and the baby turning 5 - it kinda feels like a daycare sometimes but it is getting easier and easier every year. I too would not mind another grandchild 5 of these six belong to my sons and only one of them between my two daughters so I'd like that experience again. But I'm not sure if that will happen as the oldest one who has one little boy has been trying for years with no luck. Oh well I have plenty to keep me busy at the moment. I love the pictures of all the clematis. I only have six with three of them having been added last year but I am beginning to see all kinds of possibilities:)
