During the summer of 2012 this beast flew onto my friend's face. It was subsequently killed. Any ideas what it is??? It was HUGE

Flap is right. "long-horned wood boring beetle" is a common name that refers to many different species, which is why the subfamily Prioninae was mentioned. If you google this common name, you will see pictures of many species. When I search for beetles in this subfamily, I find pictures that look almost exactly like your beast, except that they were taken of living specimens.
