I have more NOIDS for you but will also give you a large Oxpetalum(1st picture) and Strictum (2nd picture) if you like. Let me know Once we're through the season I'll look for some full grown Hybrids if you finish up your greenhouse. They will need more room that your window affords. bob

I agree, April? What do you feed your epi's? I 'd love to see blooms as early as now.

Deep Run, NC(Zone 7b)

Fully out now. It will keep blooming for the next month. (April Showers-4 yr. old plant)

Guess what, I have a bloom on my red epi today! I have a great red epi. It's from a cutting an elderly neighbor gave me. The flowers are smaller than my hybrids but it always blooms and soo many blooms. It's the best flower producer of all of them.

Santa Ana, CA(Zone 10b)

Congratulations! Mine are still a long way from blooming.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Mine is growing but no sign of blooms.

The cuttings I gave to my neighbor to start and sell at the Farmers Market are blooming and so adorable. My cuttings are just sitting here slowly growing. The older hanging plants they have from last year's cuttings are not blooming yet.

I keep hoping the old plant recovers from the big trimming that had to be done to get it into the car to move it here. It is such a beauty when it blooms. This is my second year with it but it did have quite a shock and trim. I am sure sure it will be ok. Mealy bug are trying to visit which is annoying. We will see what happens when I can put her outside.

I have had a plant for 4 years with no sight of blooming. It is reaching the ceiling and growing down to abut 3 feet from the floor. Is there any hope of ever getting flowers. How long does it take. Is it possible that this plant will never flower ? I wish I knew how to take a picture & post it, but have not crossed that river yet.

Santa Ana, CA(Zone 10b)

Okyo, do you put it outside for the summer? It may not be getting enough light. Some are slower than others, but 4 years sounds like something is wrong. It is pretty easy to post a picture. A camera works best, and you need to put it on your computer. From that point it is just a matter of following the prompts. It will ask you to choose a file, then you go to My pictures, or where ever you store them, select the pic, and open. it takes a few seconds to download, then preview and post.

So many wonderful plants you guys have. My Aporocactus malisonii is beginning to develop buds now, quite early i have to say, since it usually buds up in may when the weather is warmer- but i am not complaining =) However, i need some advice regarding wathering the plant during it's bud production... I've read about ppl who has given their aporocactus or epiphyllum to much water during the bud formation, and the plant responded by throwing all the buds?? Both of my aporo's are getting quite dry now, so i wonder- should i only mist the stems, or should i water them carefully? I'm just so afraid that they will throw their buds if they get too much wather... I'll be forever thankful for your thougts.

*Thoughts- sorry- my english writing could be better, but i am working on it :)

Prescott, AZ(Zone 7b)

I have several healthy Aporocactus and have never had my buds drop. They get regular water in my front yard all year round. I would go ahead and water them carefully and then let them dry out good. You have some very nice looking plants. Zone 3A - you must be somewhere on the other side of the planet from me. Good luck with those plants - if you can post a picture of them in bloom.

ringsaker, Norway(Zone 3a)

Thank you so much for your reply, Domehomedee, i will keep on water them carefully, and let them dry out good before the next watering round :) Thank you, the plants has been growing like crazy after i started to feed them with "biobact" fertilizer, it adds humus to the soil, and as far as i know, these plants love it! Yeah zone 3A is my sone, and i am quite exactly on the other side of the plantet- in Norway :) Thank you, i'll upload some pictures when they are in bloom, and it would be great to look at a picture of your aporocactu's too =)

Prescott, AZ(Zone 7b)

My Aporocactus doesn't always bloom. I need to figure out a good fertilizer for them and my epi cactus. I got a lot of new leaf this year with a general fertilizer but there has to be something good for making blooms. I know I feed my iris bonemeal and ash, I wonder if it is the same for epi's.

Pawleys Island, SC

You all are making me want to go feed all of my epis again and Will them to bloom.! LOL I can't wait to see blooms this year either.

ringsaker, Norway(Zone 3a)

I am waiting and waiting...for my aporocactus malisonii to open it's beautfiul flowers... it's been 3 weeks today since the first bud appeared, and it's just a matter of time before it will open :) i'll post a picture of it in bloom as soon as the flowers decide to open :)

ringsaker, Norway(Zone 3a)

Here is my aporocactus malisonii, this is the first flower and it opened today :) More are to come- it has several buds under development =) =) Large flower and a stunning colour :)

I love the plant structure. How large are the blooms/

ringsaker, Norway(Zone 3a)

They are quite large, ca 10 cm in diameter

Pawleys Island, SC

I have had 1 of these for a long time and never knew what it was until you all started posting pictures. I repotted about 3 smaller pots of cuttings into a 12" hanging basket and now I can't wait to see what it does.

Deep Run, NC(Zone 7b)

I hate to display the same plant again but just had to show the progression of bloom on my "April Showers". She is blooming herself to the max.
I have many more getting ready to bloom that I will try to keep you all in on. bob

Haltir: 10 cm is just shy of 4 inches for us. Beautiful bloom.

Beautiful!

Deep Run, NC(Zone 7b)

Alter Ego bloomed this 10 inch beauty this evening. 4 year old strong branched plant blooming for the first time and has 12 buds right now.. Ackermani bloomed (four plants worth) heavily over the last two weeks and is still blooming. (2nd picture) I have around 300 plants and I'm amazed how many are in bud.

This is a much better picture of Alter Ego. So very rich looking and huge bud and bloom. bob

Beautiful!!! How big is it? How long will each bloom last and how long will it create new buds? (I can't wait until I can have a bloom, too, or even a bud. It's like waiting for Christmas.)

Deep Run, NC(Zone 7b)

Bloom is about 10" and will last around 3 to 4 days. It will take 3-4 weeks to bloom all the remaining buds.

Pawleys Island, SC

Bob Those are amazing! I can't wait to see blooms or buds on mine too.

Brownstown, IN

Amazing blooms!
Great job!

Deep Run, NC(Zone 7b)

This opened today and was a complete surprise to me. I expected the flower on this German Empress to be much larger. I have found that there are several variations of this plant. I have another that had much larger blooms earlier. bob
Nopalxochia phyllanthoides.- Deutsche Kaiserin, German Empress
The plants blooms have gotten larger 5/14/13 and the colors have enhanced. (see later picture below in post). Absolutely beautiful bloom!

Bob, Is that very pale, or is it the photo?
Between the psychotic weather and getting the tree butchered this year, mine have performed very poorly. They did bloom in April, but between the heat waves and the wind, the blooms have only lasted one day. German Empress (Deutsche Kaiserin) is almost done, Good as Gold (medium sized) in a 4" pot, and my NOID pink, which is happy with it's light, but has much smaller flowers than normal this year.

OC: They are a very light pink. Nopalxochia phyllanthoides.- Deutsche Kaiserin, German Empress If you look on the Epi Gallery under German Empress you'll find exact duplicates of mine. I also have the larger pink (like yours) and a white and pink variety.

That's interesting. I never knew they came in other colors. I learn something new every day.

Deep Run, NC(Zone 7b)

The reds continue to dominate my opening sequence with a new blooming Alter Ego and the second picture being of a red NOID. If anyone can identify number two I would appreciate your help. bob

These aren't my first blooms...closer to last, but I hate to keep treading on someone else's turf. NOID Coral, Courante, and the last NOID orange . An Easter cactus (a month late) This last one isn't epiphytic, but it is a cactus...Chamaecereus sylvesterii (peanut cactus)
