advice welcome

I winter sowed Fickle Blue Gene seeds end of December. Was wondering if I could bring them in now & put them under a light to see if I am going to get anything or should I just be patient and let mother nature do her thing?

Hello there Rose! My suggestion would be to be patient and let Mother Nature do her thing. She knows what she's doing, and those seeds know what to do as well. Many seeds absolutely NEED the cycle of frost-thaw-frost-thaw in order to stratify. If you bring them into warmth too soon, you will deny them of what they need in order to germinate.

If you get a bit too antsy, maybe you could winter sow some more stuff? Ya know, just to keep your little fingers in the dirt and keep them happy. < =D

Rose... I think it also depends on whether you want to WS them in sow them in doors.

I understand the excitement of Fickle Blue jeans.... what a gorgeous hosta..... hope it does not turn out like most seedlings.

If it were me... i'd bring it in and see what you get. how exciting.

I was told by a hybridizer that if the stem and pods had streaks, there is a good chance that the seedlings will be streaked. I'm keeping my fingers crossed but I'm leaving them outside in the snow and will let mother nature do her thing! I'll let you know if I get something special out of these seeds.

Really looking forward to seeing the new little sproutlings when they emerge! < =D I agree, keeping them outside and letting good ol' Ma Nature do her thing will probably work out best. After all, she's been doing this longer than any of us have. ;)

I got two little seedlings from my effort! They look streaked now, but will have to wait and see what happens as they mature.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy, how exciting!!! They're really pretty and very healthy looking, CONGRATULATIONS!!! < =D Have you got a home picked out for them already? (I'm betting that you have!) ;)

Right now I'm just hoping that I can keep them alive!
