TV showed lots of folks snowblowing their streets.....
The Blizzard of 2013
The city published a list of streets that have been cleared so far. It is a TINY fraction of the streets in this huge city. The travel ban is still in effect and schools are closed through Wednesday - so far. The National Guard is in place in some neighborhoods. It is a mess.
Memory, how awful! I thought Waterbury was bad, but not as bad as Bridgeport!
That is kinda Bridgeport's claim to fame. It is a "machine" city and the machine doesn't work that well. Our ex-ayor who went to prison for years tried to run for Mayor again (Ganium). The Mayor after him testified on the BEHALF of a pedifile and the current Mayor was fired for incompetence from every other job he had ever had.
Yep....sounds like Waterbury.....lots of melting today, I managed to chip away at the now only 3' drifts.....
Waterbury got creative to solve their snow problems.....they put an article in the paper & announcements on the radio for anyone, especially teens home from school, to come shovel out City Hall, & the city's schools.....the PAL would pay them minimum wage.....yesterday, City Hall was totally cleared, shuttle buses brought the kids to the schools, & 4 are completely clear....10 more to go.....mayor is hoping all are done today....doing it through PAL absolved city of liability.....hoping FEMA will kick in some money....
Still haven't seen a payloader on my street. My keyboard was dead when I got up this morning. Walked to Stapels and got a $15 keyboard but I have to run it off a hub because my computer is so old it had the old port for the keyboard and Stapels didn't have a converter. At least I am back in the game. The sidewalks are not cleared on Main Street and it was a nightmare trying to walk the 4 blocks. I fell once and had to buy bandaids to stop the bleeding (little cut - but it kept on bleeding). Hope we don't get much snow tonight.
Kudos to Waterbury! Lots of us could benefit to a page or two from that creative elegant solutions play book.
Memory! So sorry you fell....very frustrating trying to walk in this stuff.....the state park on our town line has been cleared of snow....the road & parking spaces are bare...folks have been snowshoeing & Xcountry skiing, so I walked in those paths for a little while....then the snow became softer, & I started to sink, so I turned around, went back to the pavement....
Jen...not another word, or I will send you everything I have, including the now shrunken-to-4' drifts!
We lost alot of it today ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ In the sun it was 46 @ one point!!!!!
You can send it all!
More snow coming on Friday night? I've had it!
Me too! Just have to decide whether to move to Virginia or Arizona as I have sisters in both places.
Would love to move to FL, but not in the summer......
Would love to move to VA, don't know if I could do AZ, I need green grass
Couldn't deal with the FL humidity
I love the simplicity of the desert and the colors. I would tear up the grass and plant something I could eat anyway. :)
I think North AZ actually has green(can't remember the exact town, it began with a "P", was looking at prices a couple years ago, the picks looked like they could have been from the NE)...but then you get to deal with snow too
Prescott?
