I've taken a dead-ripe eggplant and separated the seed from the 'pulp'. How much drying time if any is required prior to planting? Also, I'm guessing by observing the flower structure that eggplants are more like peppers than tomatoes as far as their likelihood to cross-pollinate. Is that accurate?
Eggplant seed saving
Paraphrasing "Seed to Seed" by Suzanne Ashworth:
Eggplants are primarily self-pollinated. Cross-pollination can be prevented by isolation of 50' or by caging (screen or floating row cover fabric). If you cover the plants, do it before flea beetles attack, and block them out, not in.
