31° wind is picking up. The storm must becoming towards us as friend in Concord has 4 1/2" while we have a couple inches less than that. the wind is beginning to whistle, however.
4 cardinals under the feeder & they are fighting each other for seeds.. they are not usually that aggressive.
Weather In Your Garden # 127 Waiting on Spring
Poor birds. Not seeing any at feeders now. One dog is outside, so it isn't too bad here or she would want to come in. 35 out now.
DH just ordered me an early Valentine present as my computer is DOA. It must have died in the night as I was on it late last night and it was fine, but now it is not showing any signs of life. I guess it was time as it was at least 6 years old. I am happy as the new one will be a couple of pounds lighter, more GB, Ram, back-lite screen, etc. Now if the storm doesn't hold up the shipping, I will be back in business soon, though it could take a couple of weeks. I hope there are no problems downloading all my old stuff to the new one as we use Plum Choice to do automatic backups, so they should be able to transfer all my files to the new computer for us. Fingers crossed. Patti
Snowing heavily....about 4" out there now.....not much wind, though.....the temp is around 30, so snow is wet & slippery..it can stop anytime now, I've had my fill for the season! Good luck with your new computer, Patti. Stay safe everyone.
was thinking about the birds.. might do a peanut butter oatmeal thing for them
The little birds are fine as we have a tube feeder. Hairy woodpecker was working the suet cake earlier. Perhaps he felt the strong wind & thought it time to feed. Wind doing some howling. the snow is blowing as it is the light weight type in stead of heavy 7 wet.
Wind now at a steady 25 to 30 so storm is coming closer. Still raining. Patti
Just had a momentary power outage. Candles at the ready and flashlights too. Patti
Lull in the action it's not even raining right now
Plowperson came about a 1/2 hour ago...hard to tell accumulation, wind is pretty wild.....looks like 6"....probably will get another 6" by tomorrow morning....hoping storm departs quickly!
About 6-8" here, close to a foot when I left my office further north
Just rain, but it is starting to blow like stink. Batten down the hatches! Power still on but had a flicker or two. Could be a two dog night. Patti
About five here.
9"
best of luck to all.. last I went out we had more than 6.. snowing sideways and upside down now.. praying the power stays on for everyone
snow finally started
Yeah, very windy. Don't want to lose power.
temp has dropped frpm 31° to 19°. High winds, can't really tell about the snow, but I am betting on 8". high winds. Power has been fine, problems are in the Cape Cod area & south coast. We are NE of Boston.
Good night all & hope you all are safe.
Hurricane winds at Logan. 18-19 inches on eastern LI and in eastern CT.
We are experiencing white-out conditions, extreme drifting, lost power for a little while, power came back on, cable came back on and now internet. Not sure how long it will hold on for so i'll give you an update now. We are @ 9 degree's with a 35 MPH wind, making it negative 15 here. We are gusting between 45 and 60, because of the winds we probably won't see positive #'s today. The dogs refused to go out, that tells me a lot!!!!!!
Hope everyone is safe and warm, blessings all, please check in when you can. ^_^
BTW ~ Gorham, Maine 31.4" snow so far.

We have about the same amount of snow, Allison. Isn't it strange how the trees have almost all the snow blown off them from the winds? I guess that's a good thing.
Yikes compared to further north we were lucky, I won't complain...looks like we got about 5'' going to 38 and cloudy. Hope everyone is safe and warm!
saying 3 feet in CT.. yikes!!!
my co-worker that lives by Columbia NJ.. said he only got 3 - 4 inches.. between Teri & I.. but north
32 " in Southern Maine, along the coast in NH. & CT they are at 33-36" is the report, no official totals yet here.....we still have 6 - 8 more hours before it stops.

About a foot
OMG be safe all... hugs
Wind was wicked last night, at hurricane force at times and holding steady in the 60's MPH for a very long time. This morning it is still blowing a steady 35 to 40MPH with constant higher gusts. It finally got cold enough, now 27, to get some snow. But it is mostly blowing away. None on the roof but a few inches on the ground. Power went out for a short will around 11:30 but came back on within 20 min, then went out again a few more times during the night, but it is on this morning. Good job by the line crews that they brought over to help.
No transportation off Island, but who would want to face the mess on the other side? Big local news "The Harbor & Shellfish Advisory Board also warned islanders of the potential for a scallop stranding event along harbor beaches as a result of the storm's heavy winds." We probably will go out with other volunteers and fishermen to see if it is worth gathering up the stranded seed scallops and to throw them back into the harbor. Next years harvest. But because the temp is below 28, they will not survive even if put back into the water. The travel ban is not actually being enforced on the Island according to Chief, just encouraged, so in a bit we will go check on our work boat and a few houses that belong to off Island friends. Our front door screen is frozen shut and our dogs went out back door and now desperately want to come back in through the front door so they are standing out there barking. DH is going around the house to get them. Border Collies aren't always smart. Patti
20F here, snow is steady falling powder, sometimes blowing. It's all white and quiet outside. Since we have been fortunate to have power so far, we could even watch the trees until 3 am. Even the higher houses on our hill looked fine. It was interesting that the only movement in branches last night was in the very top of our white pine. There is still some treetop movement, but not alarming.
Snowdrifts are above my shrubs by the house. Our furnace vent was blocked and needed clearing. DH is busy building an exhaust pipe so snow wont clog the snowblower.
they said snow is 25 inches deep in Newton MA and 19" in Boston. Still less than the winter of 78 in this region but still snowing. Sky is grey.
Weatherman says there is a "band coming down from the north coast of Maine."
There is a 3-31/2' drift in my drive, at least 4' by the back porch......my Mom is very bad...cannot walk...has been yelling in pain all night...might be cramps or circulation...anyway, ambulance has been outside my house for an hour waiting for a plow to clear the drive...my plowguy is stuck in his own drive, but the town just sent a plow to clear...will be taking her to hospital in a few minutes...updates when I can....
Oh NO! So sorry Robin, hope she alright, sending prayers your way.
Praying, dear for you and your mom.
Have been thinking about you all and will continue to pray for safety. We ended up with.....NOTHING. I wondered if I would see some white when I woke up. We had rain yesterday and it was windy all night!
Robin, sending my best to you and your Mom.
Hope your mom can be free from pain. I know how those cramps are.
DH says snow is knee deep & still snowing & blowing. could hear the wind all night. Power ok. A lot of outage around Cape Cod. they had the toen of Carver blacked out. Better here on the north shore. Light snow flakes the trees are not bent over so perhaps not much water in the flakes.
Some of Maine town snow amounts so far.....

Jetport 29.3

Snow has stopped falling. Not as bad as it might have been. In our area the light snow just doesn't stay on the power lines, but there's no telling when a branch somewhere will give way. Here's our snow dog during the blizzard at 1 am last night and a shot of today's cleanup. DH put a cowcatcher contraption on the front of the snowblower.
And Oh! prayers for Robins mother! Good thing she has Marilyn there during this bad weather especially.
Marilyn hope your mom feels better.
Not sure how much snow we got - some places it was a foot and others 2 foot or deeper with all this wind and drifting it is hard to tell. deck stairs were blown clean while the deck itself had close to 3 feet. sun is out birds (lots of blue birds) are all over the feeders and just in from clearing the driveway, front walk, and back deck and stairs.
No - best of luck, Robin.
Yes, my Meriden, CT friend sent a pic. The car is just a bump in the snow!
Looks like about a foot total here. Never got really windy for any length of time. All in all - not so bad.
Love the doggie shot.
That is a lotta snow up in Maine, but I guess there is a lot everywhere but here where it blew away. Our Vt town got a least a foot, but I keep hearing different amounts. But not there so it doesn't matter until it turns rock hard and we have to dig it out. We lost a few big branches off some cedar trees here in Nantucket. I wished one would have come down, but it is still standing. I don't like it where it is, but don't have the heart (yet) to chop it down. Patti
