See these sometimes walking on the carpet and we usually catch alot of these critters on the sticky traps.
Are these ticks?
No, not ticks. For one, ticks hang around trees so they can "jump" on an unsuspeting host for the blood. They don't invade houses.
What you have looks like some kind of beetle. You may want to bring in in a jar to your extension service. They will gladly help you for free and can give you some information.

Spider beetles in the subfamily Ptininae - maybe the American spider beetle - http://www.gonhs.org/Meziumamericanum.htm
These beetles will eat an amazing variety of dry food items, and can be pantry pests - http://www.urbanwildlifeguide.net/2010/05/beetle-in-bathtub.html
