Has anyone in zone 5 or 6 had success WS Impatiens? I bought a few varieties of seed because last year NONE of the nurseries had them due to the downy mildew epidemic. I was hoping I might be ok if I grew them myself. But they are so sensative to the cold so I am doubting winter sowing them.

Hi again! :) Welllll... I'm sorry to rain on your parade, but sadly, no, Impatiens don't do well with Winter Sowing, "True" winter sowing, because they are too sensitive to the cold. Some have said they "Winter" sow them in late March or April, during particularly warm winters... and that they sowed them directly into pots and then covered them over... but that's not "Winter Sowing", that's Spring Sowing! Nope, I just gotta say they don't like the cold and don't winter sow well, I'm sorry. :(

i concur. you will need to grow them in 65-70 temps, at least. but they are easy to start.
