When is trick or treat where you live? I know this doesn't apply to some in other countries but maybe they can tell us if they have something like it there. Here its tomorrow night from 5-7 and I wonder if we will have as many trick or treaters with everything thats going on? We usually have around 200 since I live in a subdivison.
When is Trick or Treat ?
ours is going to be on halloweeen night..weds from 7-9..which in kids terms that means from 530 until the candy runs out, lol jen
Ours is also Wed night from sundown until whenever they quit coming. Around here, when someone turns off their porch light, you don't go there anymore.
we dont have it unfortunatly....
Laura, you could import it for the neighborhood. Just like a block party, except it's a mobile one. Call it whatever will generate the most interest, it doesn't have to be Halloween. Most people don't remember how it started anyway, it's just a fun thing.
yeah it would be cool... but our area are really... private and conservative.. very differnt culture to america....
they are far more open over there...
but it bares some thought
thanks X
Its not a big thing here, people tend to have parties for the kids rather than go out and collect sweeties. It is very much an American tradition. Bonfire night is just round the corner and people really do celebrate that one! I don't know why because there have been several times in our history when parliament should have been successfully blown up LOL
We had ours last night, the kids came out in droves. we only went to home where we knew the people,as i was not sure what to expect.
Tonight the downtown bussiness asscoation is having a family fun night with a parade, trick or treating, and costime contest for all ages. this is about the 6th year they have done this.
There is over 2000 people(kids)who come down each year and it keeps getting bigger.
The shops all decorate for the night and dress up in themes, I.E. three little pigs, star terk,Ohio State theme, and so forth.
When I had my shop down there we would go all out, decorate, dress up and get out our fog machine.
This year we did even decorate our house because living in the country we don't get trick or treaters.
I need to get back in with the Jaycees and start up a haunted house.
On the big night, 6th Street in Austin will have 100,000 people, and it's probably the largest gathering of the year in Austin. I avoid it like the plague. Georgetown, on the other hand, will have a little old fashioned hayride and the schools will join in producing a little carnival, all in one room and around the park. There will be a rented moonwalk, manned by a high school club as a fund raiser. One folding table holds the hot dog vending business, and there are some styrofoam coolers with drinks. The "crowds" won't be bad, because the celebration is spread over a week. I love the sanity of a small country town.
Our's will be on Wednesday as well. Don't feel much like it, but we can't disaapoint the kids.
"eyes"
Ours starts at dusk, with the younger kids usually coming in the first wave, and older kids bringing up the rear, with everything winding down around 8:30 or 9:00.
Before we moved, we lived in an "upscale" subdivision, with about 50 homes. People would drive their kids in, so we always had 200+ turn out for trick-or-treating - it was a lot of fun! Now we live in a much smaller home in a one-street neighborhood. I was sicker than a dog last Halloween, so I didn't witness the traffic first hand, but by all counts, I think we got the same 10 trick or treaters about 5 times each ;0) (And that's fun, too since we know all the kids.)
I've always made it a rule with my kids to only trick or treat at the homes of people we know, and I'll be enforcing that rule even more so this year.
Tomorrow night, but the city is asking that parents stay with kids and be done by 7pm. They want people to take kids only to places that they know or to parties such as church sponsored ones. My nephew if a fire inspector and he seems to be worried about tomorrow night, is taking his kids to the church and not letting them go door to door, except grandmas of course. He said the police and fire dept. will be out in full force because of things they heard but will not explain further. I think I will stay home!
You with kids coming around are sooo lucky. Here in my neighborhood I lovingly(?) call "Menapausal Acres" there are NO children to brighten my Halloween night!
When I was a child in the dark ages, we didn't know what "treat" was...just went out and did our best harrassing...turning over out houses, soaping windows, the old "cowpile in a bag and light it trick"....then some one from out of state moved into the community....word got around fast that Mrs. Jones was giving away CANDY BARS! WOW! Have a very GOULISH HALLOWEEN TO ALL! Jo
Oct.31 here. Each year I buy candy, get no kids and have to eat the stuff myself. LOL naturally I buy what dh and I like.
tomorrow night is when we celebrate it - I thought it was celebrated all over the US on the same date....
usually I take my kids out for about an hour or so - then let them do the cul de sac on their own, My son will stay home this year and hand out candy. We usually get quite the crowd. I usually fix and extra goodie bag for all the kids in the neighbourhood, and they usually come early.
hey mystic did u ever sneak into yours kids bag and what was your favorite,,,,,mine was them peanutbutter chewy's lol
Wednesday nite Dusk until quitting time...usually about 9 PM. Normally about 70 to 100 visitors here. More on a Friday or Saturday night with good weather less during the week or in bad weather. Everyone likes the decorations at our house and the freebies!
ooooo i forgot to buy candy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Wooooo weeeeee trick or treat is over. I just had 83 kids this year( yeah I counted my neighbor calls every year to see how many we had I always say I lost count after 100 or whatever I figure I will be ready this year. lol ) so I don't know if all that's going on had anything to do with it or not but sure allot less than usual. Somehow the whole thing just wasn't the same this year. I guess I miss the kids walking to the door and saying trick or treat and then thank you tonight most of them just stuck their bag out and didn't say a word. I did notice a few that when they got ready to come to the door saying this is the neatest house but you have to be careful..... lol Halloween has been one of my favorite holidays since my kids where small I have always decorated and you never knew what would happen. DH always rigged my stuff so when I opened the door to give them a treat they would come on.. It was so funny and I guess the kids really loved it. But it scared the babies so this year I didn't do any of that. Maybe that's why its hasn't been as fun. I will have a few still stop in but it will be people I work with bringing their kids by to let me see their costumes . Happy Halloween to one and all!
Ours usually start right after noon, with the younger kids and their moms. Then the half day kindergarteners come. By 3 0r 3:30 when the schools let out, many are in costume because of parties in school, and start collecting on the way home. Then after 7 or 8, the big kids come. By then I usually don't answer the door, because by then, I've eaten all the candy I had to give out.
Ours is Wed.,little ones come early, then back home.Older ones follow with the traffic from the cities coming to have fun with us' School nights begin at 5pm and end early also'
The officers and parents are all with the "trick or treaters"and we invite them into our homes or visit outside. My witch scared so many last year so she's not out this year, lol'Every neighbor has a "specialty" I always give a certain treat and they depend on me every year, lol'One neighbor, the mayor, has the scariest setting of the whole town. Another makes homemade doughnuts for everyone' A few years ago we decided to give school supplies out, kids loved the change too,no grumpers, lol'Happy Halloween Everyone,BOO'''
I went to the party favors section in Wal-Mart and found some of those things you bend and snap and they give off light for about 12 hours. Granddarling likes them so I have bought several rings, necklaces, bracelets. Last week, I found a package of two somewhat larger ones, in pink or green and on a cord for wearing, which will make her more visible. Not that she will be out in a dark area, but some older kids might, and this is a good way to make sure they can be seen. In the craft section, they have some beads that glow in the dark, and a handy person could work these into a belt or other items for greater visibility. I got her some of the glittery lacing you normally use for key chains and lanyards, so she can string them without a needle. She enjoyed making quick bracelets for her mother and me, then we all went into her room and turned out the light and tried not to be tagged. It takes a little doing with the knots, like with fishline, but it can put quite a few points of light on a little person.
I am going to ride around in the car when they take my Precious Granddaughter out. It is tonight (31) from 6-9.
oooooooo now if anyone has candy left i think they should box it up and send it to,,,,,,,,,,,,ME.........JK
