Recently I have found these bugs around the outside of the house and entry ways. There are in the thousands to hundereds of thousands...if not more.
They are very small - approximatly 1.5 - 2 MM. They crawl slowly but will also jump like a flea if disturbed (I sure hope they aren't fleas).
The bugs squish easily and seem to be killed by the Ortho bug spray pump that I have been using.
They do not seem to bite but are literally covering everything outside - anything new that is put out (a cardboard box for example) will have them crawling over it in an hour.
Any idea what they are?
Thanks!

Thanks Flapdoodle! Is it normal for there to be so many? Do they cause any harm?
Springtails can occur in enormous numbers. Most are harmless scavengers; I know of only one species of globular springtail that can be real pest, it is known as the lucerne flea - http://www.daff.qld.gov.au/26_14463.htm
