First 2013 catalog

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I still havent gotten Baker Creek. I order from them 3-4 times a year. Hope it comes soon.

Dayton, WA

I haven't seen a Baker Creek catalog yet this year either. I went ahead and ordered from them online anyway. They have some lettuce seed that I can't find anywhere else and their prices are reasonable for such generous packets. I just want that paper catalog so I can drool!

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I feel better now that you haven't gotten yours either. I read that others had received theirs and I thought I was the only one. I'll just wait, I don't need anything just looking lol. I love their lettuce blends. I do order online but I need the catalog. Sometimes I just look at ones that are yrs old.

Alba, TX(Zone 8a)

Haven't gotten Territorial either and I do order from them. May have to sit in front of the fire w/my kindle to browse this Chritmas holiday! I usually do order online, but compose my order list from the catalogs. Best of both worlds!

(Edited as I have not had my caffeine this morning!)

Oh, goody goody goody. Just went to the post box and Southern Exposure Seed Exchange was there! One of my fave's. Oh, and Davis Austin. More or less the same photos over and over, but always drool worthy and great on a cold winter's night by the fire.

Is it just me, or is the Photoshopping to "enhance" color particularly extreme this year? It's one thing to color correct your images and another to turn everything neon green and purple. I don't know if I should attribute it to bad graphic design, cheap printing or competition over the current garden fad of growing alternate colored veggies (purple carrots, yellow cucumbers, etc.)

Baker Creek is the exception; their photos almost always resemble the variety in question.

Everett, WA(Zone 8a)

I got my Baker Creek catalog a week or two ago. As always, nice photos.

I saw a picture of a young woman and thoguht "Their little girl CAN"T have gorwn up THAT much in just a few years!! I must be OLD!" Then I realized I was looking at her mother. Whew!

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

That's it Im calling them tomorrow. I still havent gotten my BC catalog. I order from them all the time!

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

The BC was the first that came here!? 1lisac" You are really not having a good end to 2012 are you?

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL you are funny! : ) I may have a good beginning to 2013, I have to admit I was a little suspicious when everybody kept mentioning that catalog. I usually place 4-5 orders a year with them. Im trying to use up what I have but I still WANT the catalog.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

1Lisac,
Send me your addy and I will mail you ALL my catalogs!!!

I took seed inventory Monday night, and I don't need to order a single thing!!!

Ya'll trying out the "New Big Dwarf" varieties this year? I ordered three varieties to try in large planters. "Chocolate something-or-other," "Wild Fred's," and "Tasmanian"...

Linda

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks for the offer but like I said, I dont need any more seeds. Just want THAT catalog! lol

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Like,

Not talking you into seeds. It's just that I'm gonna toss out THAT catalog, along with all the others!

Giving you "dibs!"

Linda

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks but I think that's the only one I'm missing and I called them and they are going to send me one ASAP. They said there must have been a glitch. Lol. Thanks anyway

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

1lisac; Thinking it might be safe to say I am l glad they sending you a catalog.. From your answer I take it I had upset you .,that was not my intent...
There not sending as many to me this year, I think that is okay also ,because I am not buying as much this year..

A little frustration all around, pass the glass... It all will bloom again sometime!!

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

You didnt upset me, I was being sarcastic. I know it doesnt come across in writing but that's why I put the smile after it. : ) I thought you were just joking around, so I decided to join in.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I was ^_^ Only being sure lol

Everett, WA(Zone 8a)

Linda, when I have extra seed catalogs, I leave them at the dentist's or doctor's waiting room.

I figure there may be other people there like me:

sports magazine - no interest
year-old news magazine - no interest
car magazine - no interest
women's magazine - too embarassed to read it for the lingerie ads

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

LOL Corey!

Glad you'll soon have your BC fix, 1lisac.

No more catalogs have hit but thinking back most have landed around New Year's. Do any of you recall the name of the one that is oversized, think it had a parchment color cover with scroll words, and has a Victorian-ish feel with lots of photos that look like prints?

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Burgess?

Still available. http://www.rhshumway.com/

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks, Dill.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Dang FD, that's it.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Yes it is. Thank you, Farmerdill, for jogging my memory and for providing the link. You are not far from my old stomping grounds in SC.

Of all days, hubs has a dr appt on Valentine's Day. By then we should have accumulated a plethora of seed catalogs to share in the waiting room, and it will still be early enough for others who might not have internet access to order for next year's growing season.

Dayton, WA

It just dawned on me that nearly all the seed companies I ordered from online last year have NOT sent me their paper catalogs this year. Could be a cost-cutting measure on their part. Why would they go to the expense of sending me a paper catalog when they figure I'll order online again?

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

You got it, Toyota...MOST businesses are figuring out it costs less to produce paper, than to just start a website.

It's a website world we live in now...

Madison, AL(Zone 7b)

Can someone please that money-saving advice on to some of the companies that send me massive catalogs every few months? The irony is, they are the ones I only bought something form *once.*

Alba, TX(Zone 8a)

NicoleC, you can call the offending catalog companies, ask for the mailing dept (may just be customer service) and give them the customer # and priority code on the back of the catalog. Ask them to remove you address from their list. That was one of my very first duties as a real librarian-in-the-big-world. Staightening out all the multiple, unwanted catalog receipts and duplicate serials subscriptions. Tedious, but it actually makes you feel good ......=)

I wish, if the seed company or nursery, is no longer send paper catalogs (I don't really blame them), they would just send us a card or something at Christmas-time telling us as such. Then we would know we have an option of going online and requesting a paper catalog if we so choose. Or maybe just an e-mail. Something--as I was kind of wondering if some of these guys just went out of business or something. I know I'm one of the first to gripe about getting the catalogs too soon (like August), but that is not to say that I don't want one at all! =))

Madison, AL(Zone 7b)

The postcard is a great idea, Terri. Or a letter with the download link and a postage paid card you send back to get a paper copy.

Seems like many companies now have a paper/e-catalog preference on your user account.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I order online but I decide what to order, most of the time, from a paper catalog. It is strange how many catalogs I get from companies that I haven't ordered from in yrs. or only ordered from once.

Warrenton, VA

With your advice, I tried Southern Exposure Seed Exchange. The seeds came, in beautiful order, and I just received my very first seed catalog from them. LOVELY! Major drool factor, and so interesting! I will delight in planning my garden now - I especially appreciate their tips about companion planting - like, sowing beets around asparagus - great use of land, and crops that are appropriate for each other!

THANK YOU, ONE AND ALL!

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, there is a catalog I will have to order. I have a small garden and am pressed to find better ways to use my small plot.

Dayton, WA

CajuninKy, I reccomend that you obtain a copy of Mel Bartholomew's "Square foot Gardening." Best advice I've seen for someone with a limited garden space.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Anybody else get some catalogs today?
Today I got Burpee, Tomato Growers Supply, Territorial Seed Co., Gurney's, Jung, & RH Shumway's.
More for the burn pile!

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Terrior, Shumway and Shumway. Need to get one of those removed from the list.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

This evening R.H Shumway's Henry Fields ,Gurney's, and Jung. How about that?!! Oh goodie!!! Christmas reading ,and New Year's ,and January ,,,etc....

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Yay, maybe some are on the way to me too. I don't think I've gotten any aside from Pinetree, yet (I do not order a lot though, I usually get Johnnys and have ordered from them recently too.)

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

I got Harris home gardener catalog today.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

sure enough, t and M and one other yesterday. With holiday prep, I try not to even look at any until now so maybe they thought catalogs are more likely thrown out if they arrive too early.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

I got a neseed catalog today. First time I ordered from them was last year. They have varieties never seen at other places. They were good, too. Also a little less money.
