Thanksgiving prep

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh wow.. I looked closer at the rachel ray stock.. it's GF!!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

sorry I am running in and out.. but taking a break for a min.. the GF gravy looks too thick ... might have to redo it.. it looked too thin when I started the rue .. but got super thick now that it started to cool off.. have to back off the GF flour mix.. I think.. but I am impressed it thickened up at all .. just took the GF cake out of the oven.. praying for the best.. cranberry sauce is done and I am going to cook the sausage for stuffing in a few.. once I flip out the cake.. smells good in here already!!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh crud.. it fell apart when I took it out of the pan... sooooo triffle it is!!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Floors are washed, pies in the oven, DD's are coming to the rescue. One is making the clam dip for me, and the other is making Onions Au Gratin, 2 less things I have to make. Didn't think I could handle those 2 smells right now. :(

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Feel better!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yes feel better Celeste!!!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Praying you feel better, Celeste!

DH ran a new wire to the stove today. It has a small second oven on the bottom, but I've not been able to use it yet without it blowing something out. So, now it has it's own designated outlet. Will be trying it out tomorrow.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Feel better Celeste

That's funny Rosie, probably now but not when it happened

Hope it works Jan

Turkey is baked, giblet gravy is made, deviled eggs are hidden in what would have been their empty carton (hubs is a major deviled egg stealer), Winter greens are sauteed, frozen loaf of bread is rising (if it's a no go, we'll have Crescent rolls with Amish butter), cornbread dressing and mac n cheese pie are ready to stick in the oven late tomorrow morning along with a pan of sliced and diced butternut squash, carrots, onions, and turnips that will be sprinkled with sea salt and drizzled with Maple syrup just before serving. Since I use canned yams, the so-called 'sweet potato souffle' only takes 5 minutes to whip up and 15 minutes to heat. Will finish cooking late tomorrow morning and shoot for a 2ish lunch time. That way if hubs goes hunting tomorrow afternoon, there will still be time since he usually leaves around 3. A neighbor stopped by today with more turnips and tops, and a few apples. Looks like we'll have baked apples instead of an apple pie, she has occasionally brought us one and I am not a baker. We'll never know the difference an hour after we eat anyway. Maybe I'll pull out a frozen Key Lime pie. Nice and tart after a heavy meal.

How I feel for any of ya'll who are sick or have ill family members or are going through troubles during the Holidays! Twenty years ago when we bought our house and moved in a week before Christmas Day, the well pump died, but not before we had a mini flood downstairs. We were newlyweds at the time and were expecting a houseful of family on Christmas Day that included a half-brother and his family that my husband never knew existed before my SIL found them. All of us had a great day! That was the same year I roasted a turkey for the first time. Now it seems like rote.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Sounds wonderful Fruit!!

Thanks for all the well wishes, I feel much better this morning....may even be able to sample a little turkey later! Fingers crossed, i've been craving it all week!!!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, and get well!!

Sweet potatoes are baked and mashed, sausage cooked for the stuffing, mini pumpkin and mini apple pies done, really mini lemon pies done, yeast dough rising, cinnamon quick bread in the oven.

Have to get the turkey in the brine, dice bread for stuffing, then can rest a while.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Eating pumpkin soup for breakfast - not on the menu today as it has 1/2 & 1/2 and my GF is lactose intolerant. (We will have celery root soup I made and froze last weekend.) Have to blanch the haricot verde and saute them and add the stuff to the toasted bread pieces and roasted chestnuts, apple, sausage, sage and parsley, shallots and a little celery to make the stuffing. Also have to get dressed and off the internet if anything is going to get done to leave here at 11:15.

Thomaston, CT

The turkey is baking, just ready to start on the sweet potatoes, & the kugli....cranberry sauce is in the fridge ....table is set....good to go....glad you are better, Pixie. Allison, sit as much as you can......

South Hamilton, MA

Dinner will be our evening meal giving us time to work in the garden before it gets cold on the weekend.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Just had Thanksgiving Panic as I called my GF and said I was leaving late and I was an hour early! Put the stuffing back in the oven.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Great dinner. Lindsey said next year she wants to host but she wants me and her mom to come over to do all the cooking :-)

Thomaston, CT

I wish someone would host next year, but I doubt anyone will volunteer! I'm sort of dragging right now....

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Yay, the second oven worked!! Apple tart was great!!! DIL bought a 21# turkey for 5 adults and 3 kids. Bless her heart. She gave it to me to roast. Turned out good. Lots of leftovers. She also used 10 # of potatoes for the mashed. We love leftovers.

Hoping you were able to eat, pixie.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

both ankles are screaming at me.. but it was a wonderful day.. Jily was the babies (my niece Sophia) protector today.. if she cried Jily came running over to see what was wrong.. too cute.. I can honestly say no one got out of line or fought.. was a perfect day!!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Love those days.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

me too.. it's rare!!!.. we had a full house and the food was good.. my gluten free niece was thrilled with everything I made including the cake that fell apart that I whipped into a trifle .. she said it was the best GF cake she ever had and was the only one texture wise that made her think it wasn't GF!!.. woo hoo!!!.. you know I love a challenge.. going to figure out how to make that cake stay together.. I promised her I would do that by christmas.. the 2nd one I did and held back some liquids.. was rock hard btw.. will try and figure it out though.. my 2nd batch of gravy was better than the first.. the first looked like jello when I took it out of the fridge.. only used the brown rice flour the 2nd time.. and it worked great

South Hamilton, MA

We are going to be eating pie for awhile. However sugar test went fine after the meal so it should be ok.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

So, now I start the prep for tomorrow. Baked ziti, meatballs, sausage and peppers, rolls. Will do most today. And the baking. Just praying it doesn't rain, so the kids can play leaf tag. We purposely left the latest leaf fall on the ground for just that purpose. There could be 11 under 11 here. There would have been 5 more, but they are in FL for the holiday. I better get myself in gear, but I have to check through all the threads on DG first. Heehee. I could be awhile. Besides I'm not finished my coffee yet.

Thomaston, CT

Wow, Jan....sounds like a second Thanksgiving....I'm still tired from yesterday....

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

All that prep for 20 mins of eating, I def overdid it

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Heehee. Sat down about 3:30. Think we are going out for dinner. Didn't make it out for breakfast. Actually, I was still full from yesterday.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Went out tonight after a long day with the grandkids...french onion soup and salad.

Prepping for our second Thanksgiving tomorrow too...hot wings are just about done, apple pie is cooling and lemon meringue is bought. Toffee bars in the fridge.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yum Ronnie!!!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Doesn't feel like yum to me Allison, I like the wings but cooking them makes me a bit sick to my stomach...weird...I smell like grease!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

YUM YUM!

Sorry you don't enjoy fixing the wings. Enjoy your day

What's the store in Orange, Memory?

In the shopping center with the LL Bean outlet. The DSW shoe store is in the next shopping center.

Edited to say - 560 Boston Post Road.
