New kids on the block

Linden, TN(Zone 7a)

Well, actually, old retirees.. LOL.. Hi, we are Larry and Carolyn... and we just signed up here at Dave's Garden... There is so much to read, I could just sit here allll daaaayyy long... and never get bored... but for now, I am quite content to simply learn to navigate my way around..Larry is mostly a reader.. and sort of leaves it up to me to ask questions..

Is there a forum where we introduce ourselves and tell a bit about us and our interests and what brought us here to DG?

Thanks,
Carolyn

Hello and welcome, Carolyn and Larry!

This is as good a place as any to start. There are lots of great folks here, as I'm sure you'll find very quickly. Here is a link to the Welcome Mat for you. You can introduce yourselves there, too.

I've been gardening for several years now and have not found a better group of people. Enjoy!

Thanks for the welcome and the link.. I already signed in there on our first day here..

Larry and I have decided to take our little bit of acreage and make a "hobby" truck patch... One thing is that this has been Larry's life long dream.. but due to resistance from his ex wife, (she's a city gal), he was never able to realize his dream.. Larry and I met a year ago, a year after my late husband passed away suddenly... I too had always wanted to do more gardening than just a small home garden patch by myself.. Yep, you guessed it.. I was married to a city fella.. and I loved him for more than 40 years.. So, Larry and I are convinced that the Lord placed us two country folks together so we could both realize our earthly dream..

We are interested in growing heirloom vegetables.. and maybe heirloom melons as well.. We have a great start with a couple bushel of okra seed (still in pods ) that we harvested from a small garden last summer.. Now we will be looking for advice as to what heirloom tomatoes and corn and peppers, squash, etc grow well in the Middle Tennessee area.. and which have the best flavor as well.. If it is anything I hate is to buy a gorgeous tomato, cut it open only to find it has little or no taste.. GRRRRR I would rather have an ugly "mater: with great taste..

We are looking forward to talking to y'all and hearing what y'all have to say..
