I was really excited today to open my new order from Woodlander's nursery in S Carolina.
#1 is pseudocydonia sinensis. I already have one tree, which has beautiful bark characteristics (#2).
I'm planning to put a few in a row along a path through the woods.
#3 is illicium parviflora Florida Sunshine. I's marginally hardy here, but the species has done fine here.
We saw Florida Sunshine in a number of nurseries in NC over the past year.
Hopefully it will be as hardy as the species; if so, it should really brighten the woodland garden.
#4 is my biggest excitement, x gordlinia grandiflora.
I may be the #1 mass murderer of franklinias on the planet.
I LOVE franklinia.
I had a franklinia at my prior residence in St Louis which survived (thrived) for ~10yrs.
But since then, I have a woeful record of trying to get one survive here.
The intergeneric gordlinia hybrid is supposed to be more robust. We'll see....
But the plant arrived today in spectacular fall color - I took it as a good omen!
We'll see how it does with St Louis' challenges...

My new plant order
Good luck with them. They're such beautiful trees. I think it's great you got a preview of Autumns to come.
Dear Wee,
You sound like a kid in a candy store. How wonderful. Your plants are lovely!
He IS a candy store - got tired of visiting others, and made his own - which is now filled to overflowing, eh?
How much is shipping? I saw lots of plants I would like to order, but no where does the site discuss shipping.
If you put plants in a shopping cart they will estimate your shipping using a zip you provide.
Man, I can't even begin to pronounce those names! Good for you in this adventure! Ah! Nothing like digging a hole and throwing something into it, is there?!
