Hello Everyone!
We have lost power.....but now have the generator on.....there's over 120K people without power now in NH -- nothing compared to NY and NJ! I am feeling so bad for all the people who are getting flooded by the ocean! We are getting gusts about 50+ miles an hour with steady winds around 35/40mph! I just gotta say -- I love my generator and it was worth every bit of money it cost to buy it and install it! So -- I can flush (yeah DJ right?) and we have heat if we need it and can use the microwave to cook. We also have fridge power....so we can eat, drink and flush....what more is there? Who cares if we can't shower!
My poor baby plants -- they are getting blown all over the place! So far -- no trees in our yard have fallen! More details as we have them!

CLOSED: 2012 FALL SEED ROBIN IN FLIGHT
We're getting gusts here in Ky that the weather news says is due to the hurricane. We've also getting some rain. We'll see what the night brings and I have to leave here by 7:30am in the morning to drive to Lexington for my sisters DR appointment at UK. Am not looking forward to it!
At least not flooding due here. Everybody on the coast, take care. My prayers are with you and yours.
Chicory and Bluespiral.....lol...there was one at an apt where I lived years ago and thought it was nicely fragrant....I went to a nursery and they had said it was the washington hawthorne, I liked it enough to find out an ID...lol..Guess I will plant further away from the house and then decide later, and yes was impressed with the thorns, deer don't like it great!!!!!!
And Juhur answered ref the cercise canadensis for me.....
So thanks for those who took time time....really appreciate it as I'm now planting, got 25 shrubs in today.....Total of 22 lilacs (some planted the other day), 4 Viburnum plicatum Shasta doublefile, and my favaorite 3 Prunus x cistena (Purple leaf snad cherry, just LOVE the fragrance).
Yup, batton down the hatches you easterners, keeping an eye on the news....hope all those gardens make it thru!!!!

well - we still have no power and four roads in greenfield are closed....however, we don't have any trees down in the yard so that's one good thing! The poor people in NJ and NY -- so much water damage!

I'm so thankful you're alright, Susan and Candi. So many people are not and it is a sad, dire situation. Did you make the trip alright, Marti?
lol Kerrie
Thank you JoAnn and Shirley for mailing my seed requests. Both have been received and are much appreciated.
We chickened out and called the trip off. There was talk of bad weather and possible snow around Lexington, so we rescheduled the appointment for later this month. I've stayed home all day and worked on my crochet blankets and painted gourds.
Hi, all.
Sounds like a good day for crocheting where you are, Marti :)
Glad to hear the robin arrived safe and sound :)
My prayers are with those caught in the stormy weather. Take care and stay safe, everyone!

hi everyone....
the robin has landed in greenfield nh! it's is stuffed with great seeds....I'm happily ignoring my work to look thru the seed packs and look up plant files to see which seeds will grow here and which ones will make it in my sandy soil! I'll plan to put the robin back in the air on Saturday but will post for certain the date it goes into flight. :)

There's nothing like sunshine and the promise seeds hold to lift the spirits. It was a gray overcast day here, breezy, and the high might have reached 50. Hubs woke me up before 5:30 this morning while getting dressed to go hunting. Good for him he bagged a doe; bad for me I never went back to sleep and stayed too busy during the day to take a nap.
Pam, I'm still breathing a sign of relief you're alright.
Snarva, how much of an effect did the storm have on you? Really hope you didn't have any damage inland but may have had some snow.
Hi, all.
Susan, thanks for keeping our treasured robin safe and sound through the storm :)
Candi, glad to hear the robin made it safely to you! Have fun!
Michelle
Hey Ali, just a suggestion but peat moss does wonders!!!!! I have heavy clay and other areas that are sand.....I have used 2 large bales in the last few weeks and am planning that the other two bales (3.3cb. ft.) willl be used in the next week. I am planting like crazy......But I have found it's the best amendment to make perfect soil unless you got tons of compost...lol. Give it a try....personnaly I put a handful or two in each planting hole and backfill, (1gallon sized plants).
evening everyone Just wanted to hope you all have a safe & fun Weekend I Won't know till tomorrow am but i maybe away for a few days so if anyone has a question or anything just ask Fruity will ya Please & she can contact me . or if you have my Cell phone # you can call me .

candi
Amazing!! Our post office is closed on Saturday.
Ours might as well be, since it's only open 2 hours on Saturday mornings. Seems such a waste of time and energy.
Wow Fast stop & Go Take out :))) Like cash & carry stores Lucky Robin :)))
Has anyone heard how bad MD was Hit from the storm ???
BIGTROT------MD & .BLUESPIRAL-----MD are you all safe in your area if I Don't hear from either of them by Tuesday then I'm going to assume that they are without power also . LAMARION--------VA are you ok & Able to receive the robin Soon ????
I have no way of knowing if mail is running in those are right now & so we do not need or want a lost robin once they are back on
we will send the robin back that way . but please let us know if your safe & if you can get mail in your area PLEASE .
Well i got a Box today so off I go to BOAST OVER IT :))))) want to hear from you PLEASE
FOTV, count yourself lucky. East of us the post office is only open 4 days a week for 4 hrs each day.
Snarva, my daughter and her husband sat out the hurricane in Florida, then couldn't get back until Thursday. Poor things, stuck hanging out by the pool... They both had their laptops so were able to work some from there. When they got home, reality hit. No power, no heat, lots of things blown around, fence down, food in freezer no good... The worst is that one skylight is partly blown off. Somehow, though, there was no water damage. They still consider themselves lucky.
I'm due to get the robin next week in NYC, where everything should be working fine by then, and I will see that she gets it after me and that it gets mailed to the next person.
Pam
Pam, I did not know she is your daughter. Bless her heart and home. What a rude awakening to come home to after a lovely sunny vacation.
Marti, we used to be able to set our clocks by the time mail was delivered. Now it's willy nilly with a short-staffed PO. It's not unusual anymore for delivery to be later than Noon when we used to count on receiving no later than 9:30. 10 in those days was 'late'.
Everybody have a great evening and Sunday!
Everyone, here in MD we consider ourselves very lucky. Not anywehere near the damage further east. Not even as bad as Irene last year. We are very lucky so go ahead and send that robing when it's my turn.
Thanks for asking about us. Donna
Susie, Sandy was gentle with us - we're fine & mailman & PO are tootling along okay. Thanks for asking.
It's great to hear from both of you and know you're alright.
Thank you Ladies for letting us know That helps to know . So looks as Pam will have it next & She will hand it off to her DD :) & Then it will be mailed to Donna/bigtrot . very cool here this morning . I'm Hoping to go scatter a few seeds today :) if the sun pops out :))
right now I have Laundry to do & A couple notes to answer :) So have a great weekend of whats left that is :)))
Glad to hear everyone is OK !!!!!

I do wish spring was here....I've got soooo many great seeds to plant now!
I'm saving toilet rolls for seed starting in the spring. I'm going to try and get a jump on getting the veggie garden started. Last frost date 4/15.
Candi Some of your seeds you can start Now in Milk Jugs & Leave them out side . I Planted a few seeds today to many to list but then i came in & Made 8 Loafs of Banana Nut Bread for the freeze , 6 loafs of zucinii Bread Going to make more of that this week .

A great website is http://wintersown.org/
Trudi is still in the processof adding more info- she also has a facebook page where you can ask questions and find lots of great info. also for a SASE she will send free seeds to wintersow, and tomato seeds:)
jlee160, that's the website that got me hooked on Winter Sowing.
Last year we had a nil Winter with only a scant of snow for a couple of days, but if you believe predictions for this Winter, it's going to be snowy from Alabama through the Appalachian Mountains and further in the NE Corridor.

I Planted these but right in the ground not in JUGS

I hope to get my Fall Bulbs in the ground this week they say heat wave well a warm up thurs to sun :) well off to get my day going back later today
at the bottom, there is a list of hardy annuals and shade plants
I miss the list, and germination times. Last year I went through all my seeds and marked the month to wintersow on the package. It was very helpful.
