It was a chilly day and we had a smaller than normal crowd, but we had a wonderful time! Sybil and her husband Jeff graciously hosted us at their home and we were so thankful! Here are a few pics from today.
Sheila & Josephine discussing food choices.
Folks eating and visiting.
Yummy!!
2012 N Central TX RU in Burleson **PICTURE THREAD**
Some of us took a tour of Sybil's property. We saw some very cool things!
This is a pretty little native plant called Bitterweed. Josephine harvested some seeds. :)
The cowpen daisies were spectacular! These were out by the horse corral/pen.
Fields of sweet briar. Josephine calls it a beautiful native. Sybil says it's just a *&^% weed!! (Best line of the day!) Also, when the plants dry, you can spray paint them for a nice display indoors!
Evil Ragweed!!
This is a Toothache tree. I forgot the official name of it, but it's native and grows wild on Sybil's property.
The berries/seeds from the Toothache Tree.
It's a male monarch! It flitted past us, then landed on the fence as we were walking past. Josephine and Sheila showed us the 2 black dots that show it's a male. It was very large, too!
Close up of the butterfly before Josephine released it to fly away and continue on his trek.
Great pictures Stephanie, thank you for posting so soon.
Great pictures Stephanie! Glad you took some of our walk and the interesting things along the way.
I really missed coming. It ended up my van has a major oil leak and Linda (smockette) lives 75 miles from me. It is not a good idea to drive it so far from home. :( They said about 1900 to fix. :( Dog gone it.
Josephine, my husband's name is Ray.
Doggoneit is right! That stinks.
Sandy, I really hope you'll be able to make it in the spring! We missed meeting you.
Great pictures as usual Josephine! We had a great group and as it turned out, great weather, and always great food.
Those attending were:
Sybil & Jeff
Josephine & Frank
Sheila & Herman
Stephanie & Mark
Sandy & Nancy

Carrie & Ray
Smockette & Doris
Thank you Sheila you are a sweetheart, sorry I am terrible with names, I will correct them now.
Josephine
Well I am the one holding the sign-in sheet....or cheat sheet! LOL!
Ok....my turn now. Herman was sweet to take all of our pictures yesterday.
As we first drove up in case some of you didn't meet her....this is Flower, sweet dog.
Then this is the whole picture from the drive...great place with lots of room. House is to the left, pavillion, then plants were set up along the fence on the right.
Me at the sign in table. Oh and one showing where we unload plants. The parking is inside this fence where Herman was standing to take the picture.
The final pic is Josephine with one of her door prizes.
Thanks to those of you who helped with the set up of the tables, drinks, food, unloading of cars, and the door prizes. Only thing I wish I had done before I left was stack the chairs back. Hopefully we didn't leave a mess behind for Sybil and Jeff and the two grands to deal with.
Thank you so much Syb for the tour through the woods. Lovely day!!
Thank you everybody--it was exciting to finally meet the people I had been reading about all these months. We felt very welcomed.... I guess now I really live in TX!
Thank you Sheila, great pictures as always, it was a really fun day and we weren't cold at all, I especially enjoyed the walk through the property and loved all the blooming Broomweed.
thanks for all of you sharing your photos! It helped me feel better after missing the event this time. sorry I was not there to help welcome Carrie and Ray to Texas but hope to greet you in the Spring and see the rest of you again also.
Where's the group pix?
right here Smockette :) http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=9298442&extraimg=0
A big thanks to all our picture takers for recording our fun. What a wonderful day we had. I enjoyed myself so much and look forward to seeing you all again before long. Not to worry about the chairs, Sheila. Many were here yesterday for Sunday dinner, and the grandsons put all the tables up in the attic (of the pavilion) and stacked the chairs for us. The DG group was so sweet to clean up before they left. We had very little left to do.
Now if I can just get all my plants tended and remember what they are. (That might be the most grammatically challenged sentence you'll ever see.)
Sounds like it was wonderful as usual. I can just imagine Josephine's delight to see the wildflowers.
Smockette....if you want to dmail me your email address I will send you a group shot. I don't have your email for some reason.
SYLBIL, I missed it again I am so sorry, when I look at the group picture I really miss you guys.:( ... and there are my two BFF sitting right down front as usual!
Sylbil your place is awsome and perfect for a get together! I would bring a Hammock and lay out between some of those trees, I just love trees. If if every tree I bought lived I would have a back yard full! :)
Great going Guys!!!
Well we will be together again in the spring, hope to see you then.
Sylvia, I have some live oak trees, elm trees and a pine potted up. Would you be interested for me to bring them to you in the Spring RU?
I have no idea what I brought home--aloe, jade plant, rosemary, something else and another something else, I think. I guess I should check the trade thread.
You can also post a pic of the plants and someone will tell you what they are.
Carrie, I gave you the big pot with Mexican petunias, which I specially reserved for you.
I gave you a walking iris in a large pot, maybe something else.
