I'm guessing some kind of hummingbird or hawk moth? Anyone know for sure? Thanks!
CLOSED: Huge cat on brugmansia - black w/ yellow stripes; red head
Looks like this guy...not a good one to have around: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/2018/
It's Pseudosphinx tetrio, a sphinx moth caterpillar - http://www.silkmoths.bizland.com/ptetrio.htm
Melody - the photos on that DG link have two different caterpillars shown; I don't think this is that one. I believe it is the second one, the Tetrio Sphynix moth. Thanks flapdoodle for that id!
It does look like that one picture is in the wrong file. Azalea caterpillars are likely much smaller besides. ( Or I hope they are- this thing kinda creeps me out!)
I think so too...can someone sort the images and click the 'report an error' button to let the editors know?
That process is rather pointless. The member reporting the photo error is directed by DG admin to post a comment to the photo in hopes that the member who posted it will correct the placement. Generally not a very rewarding expenditure of time and good intention.
I had a couple of photos in the wrong place. I reported the error and it took about 3 months but they were finally moved.
Our BugFiles editor is a volunteer and has a day job.
I'll see if I can help the process along and get these moved.
