It made its home on the outside of my conservatory window frame here in Birmingham UK.
Very unusual I think, but then I don't know a lot about spiders!
Its still alive and well also (keeps me company as I work from home).
Actual size is about 2.5 inches, but see attached photo for more info.
Really hope this site can help,
Many thanks,
John.

If you have children about, this is a great teaching opportunity. If not, a great companion.
Many thanks kwanjin, very much appreciated!
...and yes, I have 2 young sons (ages 9 & 12) who have been fascinated by this little fellow for a while now and I've enjoyed having him around whilst I work!
I actually thought it was dead yesterday as I hadn't seen it move for over a week. I was washing the windows anyway, so went to hose it down first - then it awoke! Brighter than ever, beautiful creature indeed and made of stern stuff - It was a powerful hose and both him and his web stood fast!
Thanks again!
John.
Just for informational purposes, this is a female and is most active at night. Spiders are amazingly tough creatures.
