This guy stayed on my plant for hours, not moving, before it flew away. Does anyone know what it is?
Help identify this insect on my milkweed plant
It is some species of Sphinx Moth, and an especially attractive one at that. Someone else will probably be along shortly to ID the species. I have seen it identified as both Banded and VIne.

Eumorpha fasciatus - http://www.silkmoths.bizland.com/efascfas.htm
So the common name is Banded Sphinx Moth, yes?
Yes - the Latin specific name, fasciatus, means banded - http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species/Eumorpha-fasciatus
