Thanks for the link, that is a truly bizarre insect. I think since the Chan's mega stick was found an even larger species was discovered on a steep, rocky uninhabited island in the Pacific. I remember seeing a whole spread on the web within the past year.

I do remember this one from February 2012 NPR story.. on Ball Pyramid off Lord Howe's Island, two Australians found a thought to be extinct stick bug in 2001.... I do believe that Chan's Megastick is longer at 66cm than the Dryococelus australis at 15cm, but D australis has Chan's beat on mass...25g

Moon - thanks again. I believe that that is the article I was remembering, just thought the critter was larger.. Then again, I'm surprised I didn't remember just how steep and rocky the island was, this getting old is...uh where was I??...

I hear ya...that critter would still be on Ball Pyramid were it left up to me....GRIN You are most welcome...I am always tickled when a new species is discovered.
