Outside my front door there is a normal looking spider up under the roof, but his web has a long string reaching from the under lip of the roof to the ground, instead of the web being attached to something secure there is a little stone or pebble hanging like a pendant keeping the web anchored but it's a foot up from the ground. My dog and myself and my sister have all walked into it and broke the web string resulting in the little stone being dragged along behind us but then by the next day or a few hours later there is a new string of web with another stone swinging at the end. Is that normal for a spider web?

Never heard of that before, so, I'm curious, too.
