Help! ID this bug invasion??

Claremont, CA

We are under major attack! Masses first showed up on brussel sprouts, spreading to tomatoes, what are they? Any help on getting them out of the garden?

A Stink Bug but I'm not sure which one. How averse are you to hand picking and how many are there?

Get a sauce pan, bucket or other container, put a few inches of water in it and add some dish soap. Hold below the critters and dislodge them into it. They will drown almost instantly. They often co-operate by dropping down when disturbed/threatened. Keep a cut lemon in a plastic bag in the fridge. If you get their ordor on your hands, a quick rub with the flesh of the lemon will instantly eliminate the ordor. (Destroys it by chemical reaction.)

Right now there are many hundreds. I assume then that they are a sucking insect, yes?

Thanks greenthumb99. We have 10 pairs of hands available (this is a school garden and we have 10 kids who work with us after school) so we will give it a shot. They do fly when disturbed, but we will see how it goes.

i think those are Tarnished Plant Bug nymphs. if you can't pick them all, castile soap and water will kill them and not harm your plants.
