Thanks, I went back out today to see if it had streched out so I could get a better look but its already gone.
I think it is more likely that this is the American Dagger Moth (Acronicta americana).

Thanks, I think that does look like a closer match.
That looks like a Leafhopper, not a moth.
Thanks, and I guess he/she is responsible for the leaf damage apparent in the photo. Thank you very much.
It's a treehopper/planthooper (superfamily Fulgoroidea), not a leafhopper, and as it is a sap sucker, it would not be responsible for the leaf damage shown.
