CLOSED: Large Bug on my Patio

Portugal Cove-St. Ph, Canada

Just went to the door to put my dog out in the backyard, turned on the light, and here was this fellow, loitering around on the overhang. I think he is about 3 inches long. I haven't ever seen one of these before, and he isn't moving, so I don't know if there are any hidden wings or anything at all about how he moves. I went through a photo book of locally-known insects and still came up empty. Hope someone knows!

These are two moths mating; cannot see enough detail to identify.

Oh my gosh, I feel like such a COMPLETE idiot!! It's so obvious now that you say it, but it sure wasn't even a consideration to me before. Well, thank you for the reply, and not telling me I was a fool for not knowing! ;-)

Don't feel bad. I thought this was 2 grasshoppers mating.
