Beautiful and so bright and vivid!

Fulshear, TX(Zone 9b)

Sorry, I tried to figure out how to rotate the photos but I still haven't a clue. "Edit" on DG only gives me wording options & they show upright on my computer before posting.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

You have to edit and rotate using your photo software before uploading. Edit on DG is just to change text.

Fulshear, TX(Zone 9b)

Thank you, Stephanie. They show upright on my computer before I post them but show up rotated on DG. I'll keep trying.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

So much color and brightness. Love the Cardinal Vine Sweetmom.....and Loofah....who knew it grew a flower like that.

Stephanie - your yard is beautiful as always

So fellow Texans - my DH and I are looking for other flowers to put in....something that blooms from spring to frost. Any suggestions?

This first two is the Datura I planted from seed this year. It went from bud to flower so fast.

morganc- That Datura looks like a work of art!
I can highly recommend the Loofah for a spot that needs a big vine and no care. It has huge, single hibiscus-like flowers, plus you get lots of loofahs to share. I should have thousands of seeds by Winter, if anyone wants some, just let me know.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Thank you sweetmom - I think most flowers look like works of art! And YES I would like some seeds, I'll D-mail my info to you. So what do the loofahs look like?

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

I would like a loofah vine next yr. Can you save me some seed, too?

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Here are some photos I promised. Queen's Wreath, Esperanza, Elderberry, Firespike and Duranta White.

Lucky!

This is the first time I've seen one of these ruellias bloom so prolifically! It was so gorgeous and really a nice surprise.

I had 2 monarchs visiting my mistflower this morning. So fun to watch them.

My blackfoot daisy has started blooming again. Love this little plant!

Awesome ruellia! Ive never seen one so full of flowers either. Maybe it was the rain.

I can smell these 4 O'Clocks from 100 feet away. Not sure why no one has tried to bottle this scent!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

You are right, they smell wonderful!!

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Once when I lived in a apt, I put 5gallon buckets of 4 o'clocks on my stair landing at my door so I could enjoy the fragrance. I had yellow, fuschia and white but none of them had any fragrance. I asked a lot of people why not and no one I talked to had any answers. I tried changing the pH of the soil but that did not fix it. I just charged it to their being in pots but never knew why.

Fulshear, TX(Zone 9b)

This one is in a big pot but I have others in the ground & they all smell great. Someone gave me some seeds for a salmon colored variety but it had no scent. Maybe it's the variety?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

The pink hurricane lilies have started blooming! I'm so happy as I transplanted the bulbs earlier this spring. I didn't know if they'd bloom this year or not.

Such pretty hurricane lilies!
Does your Salvia greggii bloom in the winter? The USDA plant database says that it does but I don't think I've seen it in winter.

Another wonderful scent in the garden is our Lakeside Jasmine. It bursts into bloom like this 4 to 5 times a year.

I think your canna has the virus.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

What virus?

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Google canna virus. I got some cannas in trade and all my cannas eventually succombed. It makes striped leaves, spots of no color on blooms and eventually crinkled foliage. It eventually kills.

Beverly Pflugerville, TX(Zone 8b)

I think your cannas are magnificant!!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

With the rain and the cooler weather, many of my plants are coming back to life and putting on blooms.

I got this little Brazilian Red ruellia this spring at the round up. I've so enjoyed it!

Turk's Cap is bright and beautiful as always.

This volunteer lantana horrida continues to do well and bloom. It's not really in a good location, but it's gonna stay in my landscape.

This is an unknown red salvia volunteer. I would like to have more of these, but everything in that bed overtakes these. LOL

The toad lilies have started blooming!!

Sweetmommy, do you have dear around your area? and if so do they eat the Texas star hibiscus?
Someone asked me about it, bur we don't have dear in the city, so i don't know, maybe someone does.
Josephine.

Fulshear, TX(Zone 9b)

Hi Josephine. We do have deer in our area but I rarely see them. I have a couple of Great Pyranees that keep most wild animals away from our house. I don't know if they're deer resistant or not.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, it was worth a try, thank you for the response.

garlic chives
purple skullcap (horribly leggy, too little sun?)
I planted 3 celosia to fill in an empty spot and this is how they spread after I cut off the main bloom.
