These two (yes two) shrimp like bugs, one large and one small, were .. sharing an embrace on my porch.
The larger one was about 3-4 inches long, and the smaller one was about a third of that size. Both of them were barely moving except for the occasional leg twich, though they did manage to separate themselves later in the day.
I have been in this house over 7 years and have never seen anything like this before.
Can anyone tell me what these things are?
Sorry for the slightly blurry shot. I quickly shot this right while my kids were freaking out.
Large shrimp like bugs - what are they?
Looks like an immature (naiad) stonefly, completely harmless.
This looks more like a mating pair of walking sticks....I would not think immature stoneflies would be mating...drcaligari, we have a few different species here in LA, and I know that you have them there in Jefferson. I have a friend who lives on Coolidge over by Oschner's and I have seen maybe 4 or 5 different ones at his place.

You're absolutely right themoonhowl, and I am extremely embarrassed - I definitely was not fully awake! They could be two-striped walking sticks, which should not be handled.
No need for embarrassment....I look at pics on here sometimes and things I know look completely alien....grin
