CLOSED: zucchini damage

Sevierville, TN(Zone 7a)

My plants are dying off and I don't see the squash bug damage in the stalks. What I see is chewed damage at the base of the plant at ground level and up 4 or 5 inches, I also see the same damage on one of my pumpkin plants. Has me puzzled, never saw this in the NEast

Moores Mill, AL

I had these on my zucchini and yellow squash. They are borer worms and the only way to get rid of them is to (carefully) cut the stalk and get them out. Just cut where you see the hole. They are white and look like large maggots. Then pile dirt on the hole you made and they should recover nicely.

Agreed, except that my plants don't recover.
