CLOSED: caterpillars on willow leaf

Cottage Grove, OR(Zone 8a)

These have been on a yellow-stem willow for two days now, having their little snack. Western oregon foothills. Yesterday they moved into L shapes when disturbed; today they chose to be question-marks!

I believe what you have is willow sawfly larvae.

Thanks! That checks out. Now I know to count the pseudolegs - - more than 5 pairs and it's probably a sawfly larva, and not a true caterpillar! The only other sawfly larvae we know here so far are pear/cherry "slugs", which look way different; pretty cool!
