So, I'm in the lunchroom having a general conversation with my co-workers. And, I'm telling them how the rainstorm on my aluminum roof this morning sounded like "God, Himself, crying on my house... (no disrespecting...). And, how I was thinking about racing out in all that storm to cover my bell peppers, 'cause two of the leader heads were snapped off in yesterday's rain, and I thought our storms were over.
So, I mentioned how hard I was working on bells, and for how long, trying to get a hand sized pepper. And, a new co-worker agreed that it was difficult to get large bells in the south, but that they did where she came from in North Carolina. She grew up on a farm. So, we're talking buckets, and Earthboxes, and I happened to say that my wish today was for a gazillion gallon rain barrel.
And, she says, "I have a rain barrel -- it's almost brand new." "A lady was supposed to come get it for $20, but she never did..." So, if that lady doesn't show up today, guess who gets a rain barrel tomorrow?
Ain't God good???!!!
THANKS, BEE!
It's ok that the wishes won't be coming true in the order we post them. So, when can I expect the others to get done? LOLOL!
Linda
Stupid garden wishes
Linda, you must be doing something right, if wishes come true for you.
^^_^^!
Very Cool!
Gymgirl - My mom said it was the Angels crying when it rained. We must have very happy Angels here, because it seldom rains. ^^_^^
Okay, I can't resist, Linda... I told you so!
By the way, Park's "Jackpot" hybrid peppers produced 6"+ long monsters for me this year, despite the heat. I did plant them somewhere where they were in part shade in the spring and part sun later on. Kind of flattened instead of classically "bell" shaped, but tasty, juicy and thick walled. Not very many of them though; only about 2-3 per plant.
NicoleC,
TELL ME MORE!!!! ^^_^^ LOLOLOL!
HAPPY B'DAY TO YOU!
HAPPY B'DAY TO YOU!
HAPPY B'DAY DEAR NEE-CO-OLE!

Happy Birthday Nicole....

Kevin
So, Kev,
When yah gonna start some seeds?
P.S. I received my order of dwarf tomatoes from Victory Seeds. For next season.
Dwarfs??? Did someone say dwarf?
What kind of dwarf seed did you get Linda?
Going to my Mom's in Fl. next week & hopefully back home on the 24th. May get to meet another DG'er while I'm out of town. Once I get back I'll really hone in on the fall plan.
Still have to order the Arcadia seed from Johnny's, and then order the onion slips from Dixondale. A couple more seed trays will also help. I'll probably do a August 1 sow date for the Arcadia & the L.I. Improved Brussels Sprouts. Will just do the Root Pouches where the cukes & zukes sat in the raised bed, and let it rest till the spring.
The New Big Dwarf finally showed up from TomatoFest.
Kevin
Kristi,
I put a tag on the dwarf tomatoes discussion. Look for New Big Dwarf, NBD , Dwarf Tomatoes. Can't post link easily from my cellphone.
Kristi,
I ordered New Big Dwarf, Tasmanian Chocolate, and Rosella Purple.
Where did you order the dwarf tomatoes?
I ordered the seeds from Victory Seeds. They delivered them really fast. Carolyn Male suggested them as a source. Check the tag NBD to read the thread discussion and see pics that were posted .
Actually I was curious as I tried some this summer. A DGr shared some seed from the New Big Dwarf. They haven't produced as I had hoped but the few I harvested tasted wonderful. I was curious as to what cultivars you were trying. Are these for fall or next spring? Kristi
Kristi,
The three cultivars are listed two posts above. Seems they're getting lots of press, so I ordered early for Spring. I'll start them in mid-December, for plant out mid-February.
Kristi,
I forgot that I had to split my Dwarf tomato order:
From Tatiana's Seeds (Canada)
Dwarf Wild Fred
SunSugar F1
Thanks ~ I'll be watching to see how they do for you.
My late wishes. I wish that Bermuda grass did not exist. I wish I found housework even half as enjoyable as gardening. I wish 9 month schools were off in the fall instead of Summer so I could get more done in my vegetable garden while not teaching. The time I have off of work is the time it is too hot for most things to grow. I wish seeds germinated in under7 days regardless of variety. Waiting for those little babies I sometimes go crazy.
Quick update... NBD from both TomatoFest & Victory Seeds... Several San Marzano's, different strains & suppliers. Had to do a spreadsheet to keep them all separated, and designate a numbering system.
Wished I had really cleaned out the little bed where we did the watermelons. Got my first taste of a Crimson Sweet that's been refrigerated for a couple days. ABSOLUTELY, one of the sweetest WM's I had in years. Just guessing, a little bigger than basketball, weighed about 18 pounds. Still have another 2 or 3 Sweet's out in patch, some Congo's that look like they might be ready in a few days or a week. Curious to see how they taste...

I wish that Bermuda grass did not exist
Me too! usually I dig it up whenever I see it breaking through the mulch, but it's been so hot this summer, I've not kept up with it. So far, it's not reappeared in the raised beds.
More: rain during the growing season
Less: rain during harvest season, heat, bugs, viruses, bermuda grass, Japanese knotweed
I would like a button, today, that I could push and the air outside would instantly start to feel like my A/C does when I'm standing in the kitchen near the vent...
Linda, that's called February...LOL...
LOLROTFLMBO!
LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!
