CLOSED: Large beetle in central KY

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

Didn't get to see this one myself, but the spouse collected the images while staining the deck.

Obverse and reverse images, conveniently. By the image scale items (2"x8" beam below the deck boards) this was about a 2" long beetle - spouse claims "It was Big!"

Anyone recognize it? Supposedly played possum while on its back, but then would click into the air. Wish I'd been there for the entertainment...

Thank you so much, thumb.

This beetle seems to get around quite a bit - surprised that this is the first time I've/we've ever come across one.

Way cool. I've only seen one here- We were on the black asphalt composite running track at the high school and this guy was 'nearly' perfectly camouflaged for that surface.

They are way cool, and almost large enough to classify as a pet. ;-)
