Pond Construction

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I like to eat them. But none in our stream either for all the same reasons. I do like to,watch those expensive Koi in other people's ponds though. Plus the heron's would chow them down in a day on Nantucket, maybe I am a heron. Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

you can protect them from the heron by giving them a hiding place - usually a large piece of tubing covered by rock or an over hang - i've been waiting to see if one of the heron that visit the real pond come up and check it out - has not happened yet.

Nice Bill. I bet you could make a fortune landscaping. NO FISH :-)

Thomaston, CT

Bill, you get the Big Gold Star for this project....it's just totally awesome.....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thanks ladies.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My friend had many large koi eaten by either a heron or another large bird. They wiped him out entirely. He went out to feed them in the AM, and found nothing to feed!

Could of been a RaCoon

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Amazing project, Bill! I'm blown away! I would never in a million years be able to do something like that. Not without a lot of help, that is. You're superman.

Victor, you friend must have been horrified to lose all those fish. What a shame.

When we were shopping for our house there was one that had a koi pond and they were bragging that some of the fish in there were $2000, we said "take the fish with you and subtract that off the price of the house"

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

made your yard.. even more fabby!!!.. didn't think it could be possible... that's fantastic!!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee! Yes, crazy people will pay lots.

'Rome was not built in a day'. That's because BILL WAS BUSY ON ANOTHER PROJECT!

Norridgewock, ME(Zone 5a)

I'm so amazed that you did all this by hand. No tractor! That is an incredible amount of rock to move. My husband and son moved a big one last weekend WITH a tractor and it was still a lot of hard work. You must be all muscle and sinew...

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

AMAZING!!! Just beautiful Bill!!!!!!!!!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Hee hee Victor!

This should be called the thread of Big Dreams Come True! Amazing work, Bill. Inspiring, but i don't know if DH and i can ever pull off something even remotely like your water feature.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thanks rosemary - sure you can it is just one shovel full at a time

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Looks really nice, Wha. Looks deep enough to swim in!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thx g-sox - 3' deep was going to 4' until my wife started complaining about how big and deep the hole was during construction, what a mess that was - funny thing is after stacking rock you lose a foot on each side, she now thinks it could have been bigger.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Of course she does, isn't that the way it always is?

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Wow your pond is awesome! I love it! I hope to put one in some day. All the poor froggies that visit our pool end up dieing in fall. I wish we had a pond for them, I really enjoy the tree frogs most. I haven't seen them here the last two years but we used to get pairs living around our pool all the years before.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thanks Meredith

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Everyone I have ever met with a pond wishes they made it bigger!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

every guy too

:D

What an amazing achievement! It's sooooo beautiful! I love the addition of the retaining wall, it really sets off the beginning of the stream and the waterfall. Nice to have place to sit and listen to the water, very zen. And the pond itself is so special already. The rock sculpture, the paths, the plantings, both mature and starting add so much to the whole ambience...

Will you be able to sit and contemplate now? It's the perfect spot for it!

Pam

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thanks very much pam - might be able to sit at the end of the day - still other projects to do

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Some real nice features at the Rockefeller mansion. Multiple grottos, which I really liked - especially the one built out of an outcropping.

Thomaston, CT

Oh, right, Victor....you must not tell things like that to Bill!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I'm still amazed at your finished project, Bill. I would so love to have a big pond like that. Just remind me what a pain it is to take care of so I don't get too set on the idea. My little one is a big enough pain as it is. Someday, though, I may actually make my pond bigger.

Karen

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

ugh - just showed this to my better half and she fixed all my typo's - it took a while and some explanations of what i was trying to say :) good thing for pictures!!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

We got it. Ridiculously awesome, no matter any text errors. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I learned long ago to de-emphasize Bill's text in favor of pics. ;)

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh, who cares about your typos, Bill. We all do it, and I certainly am not going to be nit-picky about it.

Karen

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I consider Bill's numerous spelling errors much worse than weeds. ;)

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

LOL!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i just finished a massive weed pull of the yrd :) did i drop an A

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Think it was an F.
