We were cleaning our shop in Stayton OR and found this spider. It's shiny brown with a red belly and a yellowish spot on it's abdomen. It's size and shape is the same as black widows I've seen here, but I'm pretty sure it's not a black widow. It doesn't match any of the pictures I've seen of "False Widows" either. What is it?
Widow-looking Brown Spider
It is in the genus Steatoda, some of which are called 'false widows.' It might be S. borealis or S. bipunctata.
