I live in northwest Iowa, and this year we're plagued by these little bugs in our yard. If we don't pick up the dog poop right away, these critters get into it and they are loving the outdoor (sealed tight) trash can we put the bagged dog waste in. They're roughly 1/8" long, fly (their flight seems similar to the flight of a firefly), have four irregular whitish spots on their backs, and I could swear one bit me earlier (so gross!). We've been having a drought for about a year now, and I've never seen them before. Thoughts?
